Question Electrolysis?

I've recently tried using the electrolysis set up that I read about in this forum. It worked really well on cleaning up a couple of copper items in only a few minutes. Now it doesn't want to work ... I'm thinking that the transformer has quit working. How long should the transformer/adaptor last after being modified to clean coins/etc? ... Jimmy

While I don't claim to be an Electrical Engineer, I'm thinking that there is no reason to think the transformer should fail just from using it for electrolysis, any more so than using it for it's original intended purpose. That is unless the output was accidently or otherwise shorted. Did it get hot while you were using it? Look and see what the output of it is, and try to find a bulb that is close to that and see if you can get the bulb to light. Unless of course you have a meter that you can check it with. If the bulb lights, or there is still a voltage, then the transformer is still good. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply ... I must have shorted the transformer out somehow ... (probably by allowing the coin to be cleaned to touch the spoon while the transformer was plugged in?) I didn't notice any reaction if I did so. At any rate ... I will build a new system because it does work very well.

Thanks for the suggestion Boobie ... I have one that has 3 settings on it (2, 10, and 50 amps). How do you go about using it and on what setting?
