I have found another alternative for removing rust from steel/iron objects recently when attending a Snap-On tool show. It is a product named Evapo-Rust and is available through your Snap-On dealer. It will remove rust and bluing or other oxide coatings. This does not harm copper, brass, aluminum, plastic, rubber or vinyl and does not remove non-oxide coatings, such as paint chrome or anodizing. They do warn not to use it on Cadmium coated surfaces.

If not hazardous contaminants are introduced, only the iron content of the solution should dictate the disposal method.

The part numbers are:
4D5 - 4x1 gallon case
5D5 - 5 gallon pail
30D5 - 30 gallons in a 55 gallon drum
55D5 - 55 gallon drum

There is also a rust inhibitor available, however I don't have the part number for that.

Some people are buying old car and motorcycle parts at yard sales and flea markets then treating them with these and reselling them for up to 10 times what they bought them for... I like it for cleaning railroad, mining and other artifacts.

This is also marketed through Orison Marketing in Abeline, TX who market maintenance, corroson and cleaning products and they have a web site at www.orisonmarketing.com and have a toll free number 800-460-2423.

Thanks Joe.

I have two gin scales that are very rusty and are about eight feet long. I found them about 15 years ago and keep them on my porch to remind me of what work must to have been like back in the old days. I also have found several counterbalance weights and a couple of single trees that are all iron. I use one of the single trees alot when deer hunting. I added two stainless steel hooks on the ends and they work great for hoisting a deer up in the tree or over the barn rafter for processing. Also work well with wild hogs.

I have been wondering how to clean them up. This just may do the trick.

If you need to purchase a 30 and 55 gallon drum at great prices, check out http://ebkcontainers.com/products/Pl...Head-Drums.asp or http://ebkcontainers.com/products/UN...teel_Drums.asp
