Default terrific digging tool

I've broken four trowels (including my wife's gardening one which pretty much clinched it for me). I was searching for some tool which allowed me to really put some muscle into getting depth and have found what works for me.
I bought a set of wood working chisles, three sizes, for less than $9.00 at the hardware store. They are sharp, punch right down to 8", incredibly strong and you can cut a small 1 - 2" square and pop out what you are getting a hit on. They will give you immediate contact "feel" when they touch metals and fit inside a jacket or coat pocket (keep the chisle cover on them though for safety if carring this way).

Funny, I use a drywall saw... Lots of tools out there that haven't found their alternate calling!

Hmmm I have a small about 8 inch long hacksaw with a pistol type grip. Thank you I will try this out. Also need a sand sifter. But I will work on that.

i don't know about y'all, but i use a $7 trowell from home depot. it has a redish orangish handle. it's solid steel. it even has a ruler up to 5 inches on the blade. i pryed on a rock and broke 1 inch off the tip. i ground it back into shape and i'm still using it. i like it better than the $20 treasurewise knife/shovel thing that looks like something rambo would have at his side. just my two cents.

Default digging trowel

I am new to MD but spent the extra cash and bought a Lesche digging tool. So far, I am very pleased with it. It really breaks up the toughest soil, but I still had to use my small shovel to remove the loose dirt. By the way, the handle is welded to the blade, so it's made to last.
