Minelab EXCALIBUR 1000 & EXCALIBUR 800 Both Excalibur models, like the "sword of legend", cut through the most difficult and worst of conditions found on salt water beaches, to provide an excellence in water hunting found no where else. Utilizing BBS Technology, transmitting 17 different frequencies from 1.5kHz to 25.5kHz at once, and unique construction, the Excalibur "just finds the lost jewelry and coins". The dedicated salt water hunters will tell you how reliable, and tough this machine is. With either 10" or 8" coils, The Minelab Excalibur smokes the competition.

And if you hold out just a tad longer.. you can grab the New Minelab SE Pro... Only difference I hear is that its fitted with a Nicer coil.. but same electronics..

I don't know about the Excal, but I don't care much for the SE's gold jewelry abilities.

I've owned both the DFX and Explorer SE, I traded my SE off for a second DFX. With stock coils the SE does have an advantage over the DFX due to the SE's stock coil being a DD. The DD coils cover more area, making your odds of finding something good better, they handle mineralized soil better, and do better in trashy areas.

I put a 6x10 DD coil on my DFX and it performs better than the SE in my area. I also found the SE was not as sensitive to small gold as the DFX. I tested the SE on a 14k gold chain I found with my DFX and no matter what adjustments I made, the SE would not detect the chain. If you're planing on hunting salt water beaches for gold, I think the DFX is the best option.
