Hi Doug, Yes the Explorers are excellent deep seeking machines and can reach down to those LTB ole coins. Being they operate in the time domain it gives them better depth and ID capability. Ok CU later and take care. God Bless.

I can vouch for the XTerra's they are everything you need from a detector

The X Terra 70 I have is an awesome machine!!!
Best value in a "all round" machine that is on the market today. It won't let you down. Gary

Well I have to AGREE....
Being that I started detecting with a "Whites". And I am in no way shape or form "Bashing" Whites Detectors. My first detector was a Spectrum XLT.. and I wasn't into going through the Large list of settings... So I Bought a Explorer SE... And I'll tell you there where sooooo many people saying that there is a Big Learning Curve to operate this SE... All I have to say is....... NOT....... This machine is Much much simpler to me.. To use then a XLT or DFX... I was going to buy a DFX because I liked the Whites design... But after hearing that it is Pretty much the same unit.. with minor upgrades... I decided to go with a Minelab.... Now there is NO going back for me.... I bought the Excalibur 1000 first... then 1 month later I bought the Explorer SE... I bought both through the Big K... well I bought every detector I had through them... I had a issue when I bought me SE though My card was Charged "Twice" and it took several days to fix the issue. It was rough especially when I had other checks and payments pending.. Good thing Kellyco uses the same bank as I do... They paid the fees. It all kinda worked out in the long run... I'm 110% happy with Minelab.. They are Truly nice people... When I lived in Vegas I stopped in before I bought my first Minelab and they gave me a tour.and explained all there units to me.. My next Minelab will either Be a X-Terra 70 or a GPX-4000... I'm hooked on Minelab... ![]()

Hi Mr.Carter and MT, Yes the Xterra series of detectors with the V-Flex technology really works. I must say that the Xterra 70 is about as close to an all around detector you can get and do everything well! Well I don't knock any detector brands because I think they all have something to offer. But I have heard that the DFX is tough to master but again I have never tried one.
But I really believe that the Minelab Quattro and Explorer SE were designed to detect deep old LTB coins and relics. Yes MT the SE is easy to pick up on and most people will agree that it is not all that hard to learn. I have noticed that a lot of the LTB coins over in the Eastern States are being found with Explorers and even the Xterra 70. I was watching one fellow in particular and he was using the SE and making really great coin finds! Well he switched over to the Xterra 70 and put the 10" 7.5Khz coil on it and was finding coins almost as deep as the SE! But in the end he went back to the Explorer. I use the SunRay 5.5" coil on my Explorer SE and they work really well together. The Quattro is a favorite of mine also but again if your rushed for time then you better grab the Xterra 70. But the Quattro also will go very deep if you have the patience to work it. I think either you love the Quattro or hate it! I love it. The FBS technology can really reach down and give you reasonable ID'ing at depth. I love the Coiltek Platypus that I use on my Quattro. Again I hunt in all metal most of the time. But you need to take into account the " Halo Effect". Some say there isn't such a thing but if a coin has been in the ground for 100 to 150 years the soil is bound to work on the metal in those coins to cause some leaching out. The only bad part about where I am is there has never been a large population to lose old coins. But the Xterra 70 has done a pretty good job with the 9" 3Khz coil. This coil is still very sensitive to coins and will get the depth and find the relics. You know guys what it takes is a positive attitude and good research and putting in the time on your particular machine to become almost one with it and you will start making those good finds eventually. So it's out there but do you have what it takes mentally and machine wise to find it? John Tomlinson,CET P=VI John's Detectors Blackwell,Tx. I currently have the 8" & 10" Minelab coils.. I've heard soo much about the sunray coils.. But A 5.5"
I thought the 8" was small....... The "Only" issue I have with using a Minelab over a Whites is the "Swing Speed" But I feel its worth it.. In my opinion I think that people who use a Fasst swing speed may be Loosing targets.... Regardless of what brand that they use... "I think" that when you hunt with a fast swing speed that Its a sloppy way of hunting.. Or "Rushing it".. and not taking the time to slow down and Properly hunt the given area.. and what happens when you rush? You Lose out.. and skip over things by not taking your time..
