Hi Rotty,
Your threshold nulls are normal. When your threshold nulls its discriminating iron and other junk so you can't hear them (Thank goodness) So there is nothing wrong and it is working as it should. If you hunt in all metal mode it will not null. Greg

the best way to use the quattro is in all metal with no descrim at all. It takes a long time to recover from passing over iron with descrim on as you can probably hear from the constant nulling and the time it takes for the threshold humm to return. If its going mad because of too much iron in the ground turn the sens down a bit and you will find more stuff. Its a bit like the machine is being blinded by iron signalls and missing good stuff if you run the sens to high. Like using highbeam on the headlights at night in fog you will see less. As for the htreshold humm its a personal preference and will have no effect on what you find as its just a indication of when you are over iron.

Hi Rotty and yes Greg and Arma are right about the nulling that you are expeiencing on the Quattro. I have my thresh set to where I can just hear it but not so low I might not be able to hear the nulling effect. I use mine in the Coin mode a lot and sometimes in the coin and jewelry mode. I am mostly interested in silver coins. I know the recovery time is a bit slow in the disc. patterns but you will learn how to work your coil and get used to that. I personally like the Quattro because it has the ability to get deep targets. It is also very sensitive to small objects. I dug a Mexican copper Centavo which is about the size of a quarter the other day. It was about7 inches deep and I got a good reading and tone on it. So Your in good shape Rotty and just spend as much time with the instrument as possible, there is no doubt in my mind that you have one of the best FBS machines out there. God Bless ya and tell us about those finds that you will be making. CU later.
