Default I guess I'm just an IDIOT...

I recently purchased my first metal detector (x-terra 50) from TC Metal Detectors. It's a fine machine and Tony gave me a GREAT deal on it. (thanks again Tony)

My problem is that I don't seem to be smart enough to set the ground balance. The manual that came with the unit explains the process, but for the life of me I can't seem to figure it out. I don't know, maybe I'm just tone deaf or something.

So if there's anyone out there who is familiar with this unit and can help me out in anyway, I'd sure appreciate your input and maybe it can't keep me from resorting to old habits.

Thanks

TGO

Why don't you give him a call? I'm sure he'll walk you through the process.
Or post to his forum.

Hi TGO, maybe I can help you a bit. Put the detector in the all metal mode and do a noise cancel. Then stay in all metal mode and look for an area void of any targets. Once you find a clear area of ground put the detector in GB and hold the coil about 4 inches above the ground. I would set the GB at 1 and then start raising the coil up and down. get as close to the ground as possible without touching it. While pumping the coil start stepping up the numbers. At first you will have a low tone but as you go higher the low tone will start to diminish in volume and at a certain point it might almost go silent at that point you might begin to hear a slightly higher tone. Once you have just begun to hear the higher tone you will be sort of in between the low and high tones and this is where you would like to be. In my front yard the X50 GB's at about 14 and I will mention I don't have any mineralization here but there is iron. Ok TGO I hope I didn't drag this out too much. God Bless and best to you.
