Default X-Terra 30 Vs. ACE250

Hi Everyone,

I am looking into my first purchase (since I was 11) for a detector (now 30 years later).

I heard many good things about the ACE250. What are your thoughts on the MineLab X-Terra 30. It looks like a lot of machine for the price.

Regards,
Patrick

Both are great detectors but the X30 is a cut above even though the Ace has more coil options. Let me know If I can help with your decision and purchase.

the ace250 is a much better detector than the MineLab X-Terra 30.for one you dont have to keep changing coils on different site's.i for one can not see why minelab have done this but to make money .we have been carrying out field tests in the uk with the ace250 / X-Terra 30 side by side checking each target with both detectors ,the ace250 in my eye's and other is a much better detector for your money ,it will hold its own on most site's you will go on ..but the one thing we did find out in the field is, that if you use the ace250 in all metal it will give you around 3in more on depth ...it uses a tone that makes it very good in trashy areas .....dave

Hi ColdFeet,

I was comparing the X-Terra again and read about the coils, then I read your post. I had the same thought regarding the different coils. This would be a good option if a person wants to target specific items but for general purpose it sounds like it may not be a good fit.

I appreciate your feedback.

Hi Patrick, I am glad your researching before you buy. I am a Minelab and Garrett dealer and both machines have their merits. But I would have to choose the X30 myself. But don't disregard the information that coldfeet has given you. Don't get in too big a hurry to buy. But in the end I would hope that the Xterra 30 will be your choice Patrick. So when you are ready give me a call and I will help you with your purchase and give you great service to go with it. Take care Patrick and I hope you will be posting here when you get your detector. God Bless ya.

hi gold digger.just seems like a lot of messing about with coils ,when one coil can do most sites.ok if your out hoard hunting them a bigger /deeper coil is needed .as far as coils go for the x-terra30 there is only two 9in concentric and the 10 1/2 inch DD both on 7.5khz that we used on the test.and the ace250 found the same targets as the X-terra but we only had one coil for the ace250 {6.5 x 9" standed coil }so the way we looked at it that stick with the coil you have with the detector X-rerra, for my money its going to be the ace250

if you are looking at getting a X-terra 50 ...there is 5 coils for that detector .

if you looking at the X-terra 70 ...there is 6 coils you can get with that detector .at lot of money if you want all the coil.you could find yourselfs spending $1000 more on coils .....

we have not done any test's on the 50 or the 70 as yet, so i cannot make any commets on them how the different coils work, and what the benefits of using different coil makes but if we do i will let you all know ....dave

You have to consider the price as well, the X-Terra 30 is almost twice as much as the ACE 250. Im sure the 30 is worth it but for a first time MD purchase everyone seems to agree the Ace 250 is the way to go for features, price and performance.

If your like me you will soon be upgrading to another MD as soon as you can. Better to spend less now so you can get a better unit that much sooner.

So why don't you guys buy your second detector first and then later when you decide to upgrade to the X30 you will already have it!
