I just received it last evening and was in such a hurry to try it out, I was in the yard with a flashlight MDing at midnight. I never found any coins but I found what looks to be a 9mm bullet and maybe a 25 cal shell caseing. I know I have a lot to learn however right now my most dislikes are the pinpoint, the weight,(seems heavy),maybe the balance is different then I'm used to (that will be ok I think once I get used to it). am not sure I'm going to like the different tones will have to wait and see on that one. I will have to wait untill I get out of my yard before I can really see what it will do. Have to overcome the pinpointing first or just use it in the outback. I won't dig craters in a grassy area. Will just have to wait and see how it works out. Any new user tips will be appreciated. Thanks and Good luck to everyone. Richard (Gizmo)

Thank you Chuck, I will give that a try when the rain stops I was trying to pinpoint in the center of the coil. I have been reading about the probe and also about the 5" coil. Haven't made my mind up yet still have a lot of learning to do right now. One thing I know I do need is the dust cover hard to push the buttons with dirty fingers without leaving dirt on the controls. You have a great day and thank you again for the input. Richard (Gizmo)

I have had my EXP II for about 8 months. I first used it with the Swingy Thingy (harness) but now have no problem swinging the Explorer II for up to 8 hours with out any problems with my arm or wrist. Also I would not change the coil if I hunt larger areas as you would loose about 20 % of the coverage of a standard 10.5 " coil by going to an 8". The best way to learn pinpointing is to practice. Go to a target rich environment or place coins in a sandy area. Put them at different depths and angles. In the pinpoint mode I like to visualize a line about 1" thick down the middle of the coil. I sweep back and forth sisde to side to determine the best signal, the I turn 90 degrees, while keeping the detector head over the same spot by spinning it in place. Then I sweep back and forth side to side to get the best signal again. This should be along the path of the first swing creating an X. You guessed it X marks the spot. If you practice enough you should become very good. I often can pinpoint coins at about 1 " depth and place my probe right on them. When I do, I know I did a good job pinpointing. The name of the game with pinpointing is practice.
