Default Hello from Collinsville,Il

Hello everyone, I fulfilled a dream yesterday by finally getting a metal detector. It was kind of one of those things that I always procrastinated about.I found out a co worker had coin hunted and I went to this guys house for a little demo on detecting. I was hooked after finding a couple pennies in his front yard. I decided to get an Ace 250 to start with. I took it out this morning to a local park and found four quarters and four pennies. I also found probably a dozen or more screw caps/tabs! I can see from some of these posts that alot of you have the same poinion as my co worker that a person needs to listen to their detector rather looking constantly at the imaging screen. I also enjoyed watching the videos you all have posted on your hunts. I have alot of catching up to do on this site. Wow I am so glad I found it. Thanks for this site.......Kevin Williams (indian40)

Welcome to the site.
Sounds like you are off and running. You did great for the first time out...

There is some much info on this site that will help you. There are many on this forum that use the Ace 250, and they may be able to help you with questions about your machine. Also there are some real Pro's here too.

Hope to see some of your finds posted.

Tom

Smile Welcome to TQ

Indian40 you are off to a great start, plant a 'test garden' with good (Silver and clad coins, silver and gold rings) and bad targets (pop tabs, twist caps, nails, wire and foil) that are buried between 2" and 6" deep. You can mark them with those plastic Pizza box centers so you know where and what they are. Then go out for about 1/2 hour a day 3 times a week for about 4 weeks and detect these targets over and over, just listening to the different sounds they make. After listening to them you can look at the display. Go back and practice often as you gain experience.

With practice, you will find you will almost trip because you stop so fast when detecting and hear a good signal.

Joe
