Do you have any headphones? If not, get some. Put them on while detecting and pretend you can't hear anything, he (and other people) will get bored with you not responding to them ( because you can't hear them) and will find something else to do.
Hope that helps.

Tomkat, I know how you feel. Today I went out for a few minutes and two boys stop on their bike, walk into my yard and just pick up my MD as I was digging. After I politely asked them to put it down they get down and start digging in the hole I'm making. I made and excuse, went inside and came back out after they left. Nothing like being held hostage in your own house.

I'm all for showing these kids how my MD works and educating them, but they showed absolutley no respect from the get go.

Talking Pest control

Since I ALWAYS use head sets, it is easy to use Indy's strategy of acting as if you can't hear them. You can also challenge them with information on detecting and how responses can depend on the conductivity of the item based on it 'electronic valence' which is the number of 'holes' in its outer ring of electrons in the atoms (It's TRUE by the way) and how soil mineralization, moisture and other factors can also effect your ability to detect items.

If they like to toss coins in front of you to see if you can find them, just put them in your pouch like you do other finds.

sounds like i'm not the only one with this problem. i guess it's just the nature of the game. the general public has no understanding of relaxing, "forget about life for awhile" out door activities. thanks for everyones support.
