If you are budget minded and who isnt ; start low but not too low end. The Ace250 can get you going as well as a Tesoro Cibola . You can easily learn the ins and outs of treaure hunting this way and then take that knowledge on to another better detector later. Give me a call and we can discuss it further if you like.

I live in Michigan and this week I am in Florida.

I own a Garrett GTAx 550 and it will not work near the salt water. ACE 250's will have the same problem. You are okay on the beach but as soon as you try to detect near the water your detector will go bonkers. The coil may be water proof but salt water will freak it out. If you are near lake water (lake beach) you may just run into some mineralization issues.

I am new to the MD world as well. What I have learned is that I would buy a detector with ground balancing. If I am planning on going to a beach near salt water I want ground balancing and if the unit has it, a salt water mode.

I have been looking for one detector to do both. From my reading the Fisher Edge and Excel are a good choice. (T.C. Detector TQ Sponsor) led me the right direction. I did not buy one yet but plan to.

You can use one detector to do both but plan on spending near $500 and up.

I have only been detecting since Jan 07. Don't do what I did......

I went to wal-mart and bought a Bounty Hunter Pioneer EX for just under $100. Don't get me wrong I love it and it works pretty good. But......even after 4 months I know that I should have waited and gotten the ACE 250. So now I am saving for one of those. (Daddy comes last....The 3 kids and the wife come first)

Plus I wasn't "smart" enough to look for a great place like this prior to buying what I have!

You TQ folks are the best!

Default Good News!!!!!

THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT HELPED ME TO SELECT MY METAL DETECTOR!!!!! My husband bought me exactly what I wanted. It is for my birthday for the next 2 years and it will cover Christmas too. He bought me a MXT!!!! I am totally excited over it. I have spent the past two days getting the hang of it. Hopefully, I will get to know it better in the next two weeks so I can find something other than a bottle top. Any good settings any of you would like to share with me, would be greatly appreciated. I basically found hot rocks most of the day/.

Thank you all for helping me decide what MD to buy!!
