Default Thoughly Confused!

Hi Everyone!

I accidentally found your website while trying to educate myself on which detector to purchase. That has not deterred me from being thoughly excited about starting on my treasure hunt. I have read most of the blogs for newbies, but I guess I am a slow learner, because I am still confused. I will be using my detector for the beach and on hard ground. From what I have read on the internet, I should purchase 2 different ones? I am a "land" person, and will not be taking it underwater (I guess I have seen too many "jaws" movies.) I would be eternally grateful if any of you could point me in the right direction. I don't have $600-$700 to spend at the present time, but don't want to get a cheap one that doesn't work well either.
Thank you for all of your help and I look forward to reading about all your "finds."
Bye, and thanks again!
Treasure Hunter

Default Hi TH!

Welcome to treasure quest! You will find this to be the best forum EVER! The people here are very helpful.

I own a Garrett Ace250 and have taken it to the beach. The coil is waterproof, so you can take it into the surf, but just keep that control box covered or it's ruined! As long as you turn the sensitivity way down in the salt, it should do what you want it to. It's been pretty good to me at the beach and is very good in soil, too! It's a good priced machine for a beginner, too. I'm sure one of the sites sponsors would help you out with finding the right machine for you. It can be daunting, I know!

Good luck and HH once you decide on the right machine.

I agree with Pris about the Ace 250. I haven't used it near the water, but on dry land it will do the job. I've never used any other MD so I cannot really give you an educated answer only my biased opinion. Good luck!

Default Welcome

WELCOME to the TQ FAMILY..GREAT to have you with us. I also own an ACE250 and use it quite often in the rivers and streams around my home.
I haven't tried it out at the beach (salt water) as of yet but it performs quite well in fresh water.

Welcome Treasure Hunter, you will find this to be an awesome place to come for advice. I too own an ACE 250, I've had it for just a couple of weeks so I'm still learning, but I love it. Never had it in salt water beach, but freshwater it has been good. I got mine from a site sponsor TC Metal Detectors. Tony there was great to deal with and gave me a good deal. Good luck on your purchase and have a great time with your new found hobby.

Welcome to TQ

My husband and I both use the ACE 250, and it is a great machine for people who don't want to spend a large amount of money. Once you learn what its telling you, you will find some really good finds.
Good Luck

I'll add my 2 cents and agree with everyone else. The Ace 250 is the best detector for the price from a top notch company like Garrett. I bought one first, then as I learned, I bought a detector with more bells and whistles, and still keep the Ace for backup or to lend to a friend (usually my wife). Can't go wrong with the Ace, and there's no shortage of people willing to help you use one.

Default if you want....

If you want a better maching that is easy to use, and is great and has a great beach hunting mode, try the whites M6. great for land or beach and will get you better deapth than the ACE250, the down side is its $700.00.... The pluss side is, like most people we start off with a cheaper, but still good model (ACE250-Whites PrismII) and then upgrade a little time after. Although its great to get into this hobby with any machine, why not take out the middle man and save some money in the long run.

Pappy...Dumb question here...Did I read your reply correctly...? Do you actually dunk the coil IN the water...?
