Hello All,
I just got an Ace 250 and I am new to detecting. This is my first detector and I wonderd if anyone has any good tips. I have read some good stuff and others that would make me wish I had neber brought it.
Thanks

With any new detector, the main thing is read the manual over and over. Then get lots of practice.
The 250 should serve you well if you LEARN the machine.
Good luck

Like Boobie said take the time and read the manual and read it again. Take the time to practice with it a learn what it is telling you. This is the place to ask any questions you may have. Alot of people here with alot of experience! Good luck.

Default Hey Geoff.....

.....here's the best tip I can give you....." hunt slow, take your time, and learn the language of your machine!" So many go way to fast with their swing and their walking. Slow down, and LISTEN to what she is whispering to you! Use the target ID screen as a "confirmation" of what your #1 discriminator (your brain with input from your ears). Don't just stare at the target ID.....your brain is a better discriminator!

Good luck with the Ace 250. It's a good machine and easy to learn. I put my 250 in all metal mode to start with and dug every signal. This gives you a good feel for the different sounds. I agree about not looking at the target ID in the beginning, just let your ears do the work. Happy Hunting!

Welcome to TQ and to this great hobby!! I really think you'll enjoy it. I totally agree with Chuck, in that you really should hunt slowly. Someone on this forum once said something that really put me in the right mind set. They said, "remember, you're not trying to find what's 15 yards ahead of you, you're trying to find what's under your coil." I have really found myself slowing way down. I used to get really distracted with looking around me, instead of really concentrating on the ground under my feet.
Once you find your first item, even if it's junk, you'll be hooked. It's just too much fun to find stuff that's been there, buried, waiting for YOU!

Congrats! I also own a 250. It didn't take a ton of research to come to the conclusion that the 250 is a great detector for the price. Good luck hunting and the best way to learn you detector is to get out and use it.Where are you in MI?

Hello gharris and welcome!! I am new to this hobby also. My wife purchased my machine for me as a gift. I am thankful for what she has done but am already thinking about an upgrade and have been considering an Ace 250. The best thing to do is to get out and work the machine. As you will see in different forums here there is a lot of experience and knowledge at your finger tips. Don't be afraid to ask questions for people here are not afraid to answer them no matter how rookie-ish the question may seem to you. I find this site very valuable since there are no others in my area that I am aware of that are into this hobby. So there is no one here to ask questions of or examples to follow. I am learning as I go. So the best way for me to learn is to GO!!

Default New Detector

The ACE250 is one of the VERY BEST intro detectors on the market. Mine paid for itself within a couple of weeks after it's arrival.
PRACTICE, Read and abide by your manual and you will be well on the way to finding things also.

P.S. WELCOME to the TQ FAMILY !
