Default Brand Spankin' New To Detecting

Hello all....

My name is Mike and I live in Greensboro, North Carolina. I have been thinking about metal detecting for a while, but never took it up.

I am finally going to take the dive as there are many places that I can do it, and North Carolina is full of battlegrounds and historic happenings.

My question is this: Is there an all-purpose detector that is relatively inexpensive? I want to be able to find precious metals (gold/silver), jewelry, coins, relics/artifacts, etc...

I am willing to spend a few hundred dollars, but don't want to have to dig a humongous hole to find a mercury dime. Are there detectors that pinpoint where the object is?

I appreciate all comments and help. Thank you in advance

Let me be the 1st to say hi and welcome. There are some really good machines in that price range. Pinpointing comes with time and experience. It also helps to have a small coil.

Hello and welcome to the best MD forum around. In my short experience I won't give you any advice which detector to buy but I can tell you this little secret. We have some outstanding sponsors here that share in our posts and finds and will work very hard to get you what you need. I mentioned in a post the other day that I needed a pinpointer to help me when I dig and very quickly one of them contacted me, determined my needs, and got it to me very fast. What better way to buy than from a group who knows and cares about your efforts. That is just my 2 wheats but I really wanted to welcome you to Treasure Quest.

Default Mike

WELCOME to the TQ FAMILY !

The ACE 250 is ONE FINE MACHINE !

What part of Greensboro do you live in? I have a home and property in Greensboro also and maybe we can get together sometime when I am down and do a little detecting. I was born and raised in Greensboro and know some really great spots to hunt there too...

Default Thank You All For The Warm Welcome...

Thank y'all for the warm welcome. It is very inviting here. I also wanted to thank y'all for the advice on the detector. I am definitely going to check it out.

Pappy, I live off of Fleming road and Bryan Blvd. I would love to get together and learn from you. We might even find a bit of treasure!

My friend owns around 15 acres of land in Rockingham County. It has been in his family for over 150 years. He said that it was once a plantation and that the slave quarters were on the land.

He told me I could detect on the land and keep whatever I found. It sounds like the opportunity of a lifetime. I really am eager to start.

Once again, thanks for the welcome. It is appreciated!
