Default Where do I start??

Hi, I am (or will be) new to this sport/hobby. I am looking for some advice on what metal detector to purchase. I have visited a number of sites and now need some advice from experianced people on what detector to purchase. Here is some description on where I will be using a metal detector. I will be searching around old farm houses, lake shares (not necasarily beaches) and park areas. I guess I am looking for coins, jewelry and just old interesting stuff (maybe that tin can the old former hid his money in ). I have a budget of about $400.

I recommend the Minelab X-Terra 30. It is easy to learn and will run pretty deep for your price range. The Tesoro Vaquero is also a good machine but not as easy to learn as the Minelab.

The Minelab X-Terra Series does seem like great detectors. And I believe the 30 will be in your budget. Treasure Quest sponsors will definately be able to lead you in the right direction.
By the way, welcome to Treasure Quest!

The Ace250 has been a great entry level machine for me, dave !! But now I am looking to upgrade and I am seriously looking into the x-terra series by minelab.

There are many very good machines out there !!!

X Terra user here. I have a X Terra 70 and just love it. The X70 is alittle more money but, that dog can hunt!!! IMHO it is one of the best all around multipurpose ,Coin/Relic/Gold detectors out there. Great bang for the buck. The learning curve is not too steep so it should'nt take you to long to start finding all the good stuff. Here is a picture of a 5 day "hunt-a-thon" I did last week when I was on vacation. I hope this helps.

HH
