Default thanks

Thanks for all the replys. And thank you very much,TinMan for the offer. Very nice indeed. I will pm you.
I still havent made my mind up yet, just wish there were some metal detecting folks around here. Use to be,years back. My dad was one and I did a bit of hunting with him. He had a couple Whites but I dont recall which ones. I just dont know what to get, yet.
What about headphones,Ill need to buy a pair of those.
On the machines with auto ground balance. Are they actually doing it for you and change when the type of ground you cover changes,or are they just set from the factory at some sort of default?
If (that is if they make one that auto changes) you have a machine like this, are they just as good as a manual adjustment and do they make a machine that is manual and can auto adjust if you decide to go from one to the other? lol, hope this made sense.
Woops, my two granddaughters just arrived, lol, gotta go but Ill be back.
Priorities, ya know,lol.
Thanks
John

Default edit

Well, I tried to edit my last message, dont know what happened.
Anyway, for now,all I plan to do is coin shoot on old school yards and home places and hit a few area beaches on lakes, bayous and rivers,no salt water. I would love to relic hunt but not for now.
Thanks so much,
John

Smile 2 cents more...

Just to put in my 2 cents...
For just about everything you do the ACE 250 is an excellent machine.
But if you have soil with ground balance issues the automatic balance is a problem. You are on the right track for a better machine with adjustable ground balance. The sponsors are extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
I know of no problems with pinpointing with the ACE 250. I have used it in grass where I didn't want to dig and it indicated the precise location of the targets (all pull tabs so far).
99.9% of my hunting is dry sand at the beach, so I am a sand sifter and ground balance very seldom enters the equation.
I also have a Whites Bullseye II that I view as a wonderful accessory. Especially if you are digging.
The only places I have problems are those with black ferromagnetic sand or pebbles. At the beach near the surf the ground balance varies all over the place within inches. The result is too many false alarms to deal with.
I am trying several settings combinations - but without success so far.
The ground balance variance is read by an automatic balancing machine as a change in conductivity - which means a target to it.
Hopefully there are some TQ members in your area that can provide advice on the red clay. I have never hunted there, but would really like to know about it.
Take your time and ask lots of questions. It is really important to get the right machine for your application the first time.

I would advise you to look around for a good deal on a used Whites Matrix M6 Metal detector. I have tried one out on a hunt with a friend and now I love it. Tesoros are great but I would prefer the Matrix M6.

I appologize, I should have posted I bought a M6, several weeks back.
I like it so far. If the coin isnt to deep, the TID is pretty darn accurate. I just havent found any older coins yet but I also havent had the time to really work any older sites I have in mind.
Thanks for your replies,
John

Yall make a guy that went to wally world and got a BH202 for $210. I feel a bit empty handed...

I like the look of the display and read out. It seems to work well.
However, am learning fast it isnt about the display... it more about being water tight and the range of tones vs Led displays.

Mine says it will detect up to 10in and large objects up to 4 ft..

would you want more depth than that? curious.. depends on the size of the hole you want to dig, i guess. I want a machine that will pull it out of the ground for me..

Im willing to turn mine back in for a better maching for the same money-
I still think Id like some kind of read out tho.. some kind of accurate scale... with multi tones. weight can be an issue too..

so im more interested in what im i loseing because mine has a led display..
or is the loss in the coil? do other machine have a better coil maybe?
shrugs shoulders~

Nothing in the world wrong with the BH. My first machine was a Radio Shack copy of one. My wife uses it and has found stuff.

As to the LED display, I guess that is all in what you want. I know a bunch of folks hunt on sound alone, and do very well. Tesoro is a great company and only 2 of their machines have display.

Heck for under $200 the Compadre is a sweet little unit. Goes deep and hunts great. The Ace 250 is a nice machine with a VID and can be had for around $200.

Give one of our sponsors a call. Tell them what you are looking for and they can help you. IMO I would keep the BH, keep practicing and get an upgrade when you can. Then you will have one for company. Just really learn "Your" machine. Good luck, Beale.
