Default Permission to hunt?

After years of wanting to get into metal detecting, I am finally able to do it. I have so many novice questions and I haven’t been able to pull up any archive files that probably would answer most.

Next month I am planning a camping trip to Dauphine Island Alabama. This will be my first hunt. The camp ground has a small private beach area that they said I could hunt on. How would I get permission to hunt on other areas of this island? It has a civil war site that I believe will be off limits. But, it also has a large bird sanctuary and miles of public beaches. How would I find out if metal detecting is allowed?

Thanks

the first thing your gonna want to do is find out who owns the land you want to detect on. then find a way to get in contact with them.

My guess..
Assuming this is state or federal land, you should find out where the park office or ranger station is located. Try asking permission there. It would also be a good idea to locate a park map so they can mark or point out permissable areas. Pay attention to the names of those who do say it is okay. That way if there's any misunderstanding, you have something to fall back on.
Good luck with your detecting!

HI,
Try calling the county court house before you leave and ask them if it is ok to detect there, you may need to stop by there for a permit. Every state is different in their policies.

Good luck and let us know what ya find down there
