Default Visit to Detector store

Hello All,
First i want to say thank you for all the nice replies i got for joining. I love this place already!

I went to a store today to look at detectors. I have seen them online, but have never "seen" one or held one in person. It's like a baby i am expecting lol! Well, where i live, they do not have a real metal detector store. This was a mining and diving store with a small detecting corner in it. I told the guy i was interested in the Whites XLT, and if i can see one and hold it. Also said i wanted to buy a DVD about the XLT and any books, pamplets etc. too. They had no XLT, no DVD and no material on an XLT.

So, it was not a good visit, and the guy still tried to convince me to buy a different model, even though i told him my heart was set on an XLT. Has anyone else had this experience? Thank You All.

Don't let them pressure you into buying something you don't want.Talk to the sponcers here on this site. They can all give you the info you need and I am sure that they will not pressure you into buying anything. You can also get reports and maybe a DVD at the Whites site on line. Good Luck..Buster....

HI Buster,
Thanks for your reply. I did order a DVD from Whites about the XLT, so it should be here soon. Well, actually, i had it shipped to my dad's address in AZ, then he will mail it to me. Here in Alaska, they wanted $30 to ship it, paid $5 to my dad. Guess i won't be going back to that store again. I also want to start a subscription to Lost Treasure. Thanks Again.

Lost Treasure is a great magazine. I have a subscription to it. However, I personally prefer Western & Eastern Treasures. I have a subscription to it as well. They are both great magazines and both provide excellent information and tips to help you along your way. These forums are definately an excellent source of information. If you back-search through the forums, you will find just about every piece of information you could ever ask for. Good luck with whatever machine you choose and don't forget to show your finds once you get your machine and start digging!

Hey XLTkid I do understand the store part. We only have one dealer anywhere near us. I have actually been in his store a couple of times. Got no preassure at all. He really had very little stock. The funny thing is he is a Whites dealer. He mainly sells them, the Ace 150/250, and BH. I wanted a Minelab.

I drove 1 1/2 hour just to see and touch one. Then ordered it from Johns Detectors, (one of our sponsors). It helped me a bunch to do the touch, and play with thing.

Good luck to you. Try giving one of the sponsors a call. They can help a bunch, Beale.

Hi KID, I am sorry your experience wasn't real great at finding an XLT. They are great detectors from what I hear and I have no doubt when you get the XLT it will serve you well. So I wish you well in your detecting excursions and hope you can get the XLT soon. Happy hunting and God Bless.

Hey XLT There are a lot of places like that mainly HOBBY stores where they carry usually what ya don't want and no one there with experience to help ya out. Talk to our sponsors here, TonyC or Kellyco or some of the other sponsors that carry Whites. They will be Glad to help with No Pressure and they will be there to assist you after your purchase. Glad to hear from ya. Good Luck getting your XLT and be looking forward to your posts and finds with it.

Since you live in Alaska i'm curious which detector the dealer was recommending and possibly one that would be more sensitive to smaller gold such as the MXT. Just curious. BTW the XLT is a great detector. HH Bill

If Alaska Mining and Diving dosn't have an XLT, try Stewarts Photo on 4th Ave in Anchorage. They are a Whites distributor as well. One warning though, they know little about them. Steve Herschbach, one of the best experts on metel detectors in the country is a partner at Alaska Mining and Diving. I ended up buying my detector at Stewarts not knowing better, but Steve was very helpfull even though I made my initial purchase elsware. This guy really knows his stuff and is often sent detectors from Whites and other companies to evaluate. If all you want to do is hold one, well Stewarts may have one in stock.

Don't let it bother you that they tried to sell you another detector, thats their job I was a salesman myself once upon a time.

Wild Bill
