Default Intro Detector

Greetings,

I've been lurking on TQ all day and am loving what I see. MD'ing is something I've always had a secret affinity for but never actually done it.

2 weeks ago I went to the big Civil War show here in Nashville and spent all day talking to people about their collections and detecting in general.

I've decided that I want to take the plunge.

I'd like to spend about $300-ish for a solid intro detector. I'm willing to learn so it's not necessary to get something I can turn on and go.

Any suggestions?

So far I've considered the fisher 1236-x2 but am not married to it as I haven't really looked at anything else.

What should I be looking for?

Thanks!

Jon

Welcome to Treasure Quest Jon. I'm glad you've decided to join our hobby. I hear the Garrett Ace 250 and the F2 from fisher are good entry level detectors. Do a search here for feedback on both these detectors and good luck to you. :snowman:

Welcome macmonkey. Try to find a local club, or md store near you and see if you can compare a few machines side by side. If not contact one of the sponsors on this site, they'll be glad to help you out.

Welcome to TQ Jon! I have just purchased my first detector and I chose an ACE250 and have been very satisified. It is a really good detector for the $$.

Default Thanks

Thanks to everyone for the warm reception and the advice. It looks pretty evident that the ACE 250 is the way to go.

Anyone else feel that the Fisher F2 may be superior?

Thanks
jon
