Default buying a detector

Hi everyone, I am going to be buying a detector in the next month or so and I need some opionons. I will be using it on solid ground but I would also like to use it on the beach when we go on vacation. I would like to stay in the $200 range. BTW, I am new to this site and this is my first post.

Default Welcome Tincan! Are You Tinman's Younger Brother?

Just a thought and Seriously, Welcome to TQ! A Great bunch of people first and a Great bunch of detectorists a close second.(Good People being Harder to Comeby)
The ACE250 is deinitely my choice for what your needs are with a budget of around $200. Check out other posts on the Ace250 on this site and others and you'll find nothing but praise for the Lil' Yeller Feller! The F-2 is also a possibility but I can't comment because I haven't used one yet.

Cheers,

BDA

I don't even know Timman. I'm suprised that I made up a name that close to another.

Who makes the F-2, is it Garrett?

The f-2 is a fisher machine. I bench tested at the det. shop when I bought the Ace 250 last week...I Was much more impressed with the 250.

Welcome to the site

The 250 is a great machine in that price range, but keep in mind that you'll wanna to stick mostly to the dry sand when you go out to the beaches at first... it will serve you well for sure!

But welcome to TQ!! If you do a search for "ACE 250" you'll see nothing but praise for it... or if you wanna call Kellyco I know our guys are way familiar with it and will totally go over all your questions over the phone!

Either way, goodluck! And welcome aboard!!!

Welcome aboard!!! I own an Ace250 and it's a wonderful machine. Wet salt sand will mess with the machine and it will sound like a pinball machine but if you stick to ground and dry sand you'll do well.

Whatever you end up buying, make sure to invest in a coil cover. They'll run about $10 but will protect your coil, which is where most of the $ in the machine is.

Default Don't be Afraid of the water with your Ace250

I took mine out for a spin for the first time in well over a year. I dropped the sensitivity down to 4 and she was stable as though she were on dry land, no problems in the wet sand so long as I kept the sensitivity at 4. If your beach has black sand you'll probably have to drop it to 3 or even 2 but you should still be able to hunt the wet and the shallows. Just don't go too deep or get caught by a rogue wave, then it's bye bye ACE250.

Cheers,

BDA
