Default Pinpointing

I have had my Ace 250 for a week now and so far nothing but pull tabs and assorted trash. I have a few questions and this seems to be the place to get some answers, so here goes: 1. When pinpointing, where is the center of the target, at the middle of the stem or the edge of the coil or in the exact center of the coil? 2. The book that came with the Ace said to use the all metal mode when starting out but when I do that the detector sounds like a drum machine! Is this normal? I have not changed anything as far as settings go and yet I am not finding anything but trash. I dig everything and even when it reads a quarter it turns out to be a large can or something. I will not give up regardless because I am hooked, but I think I may be missing just one little thing that would make the light come on. Thanks in advance.

On the 250, there is a pinpoint button at the bottom center. Push and hold that down where your coil is over the target. Move your coil back and forth and make an "X" over the target, when the noise is the loudest and the signal bars are going all the way from left to right on the screen, you are over the target. The target should be in the center of the coil then. Place a coin on the ground and raise yur coil about 3-4 inches above it and practice like that. Remember to hold the pinpoint button down while you are doinng this. Hope this helps.

Welcome to TQ, first of all there are a lot of Ace 250 users here, so you'll get some good advice.

Here goes. If you're in a "trashy" area, it will be more difficult to learn, but you will learn more quickly just because of the sheer amount of targets you'll dig. You might want to try going to a tot lot or sandy area so you're not taking most of your time up by digging. There is a little notch right in front of the stem on the stock coil. It looks sort of like a U. That is the sweet spot when you're pinpointing. What I do is zero in on the target, then pull back just until the pinpoint starts to lessen in bars. Then the target tends to be right in front of the U notch.

Also, if you are getting the pinball machine sounds from your Ace, you should turn down the sensitivity a notch or two, until it stops sounding off. I think the factory setting is full blast. All metal mode is suggested when you first start out so you can learn what each item rings in at.

I hope this helps! Watch that DVD and read the manual a couple of times to start to understand the terminology and it will eventually sink in. Try doing a bench test on different coins and jewelery, too. This will help a bunch!
