This is the one I just ordered. I seen a guy on a video using one and it looked nice. Don't have to get down on your knees every time, and since I won't be in the surf, I think it will be better for me than a long handle scoop. Bending over to dig isn't a problem for me...Yet!

I gave the collander a try today and it worked well, would be gread if I was looking for nuggets! But he mesh is a little too fine. I'm beginning to see the advantages of the scoop...Larger mesh, and a handle so I don't have to get down and dirty!
Where do you get them? I'd like a plastic one that doesn't set the detector off.

Hey Deef one of our sponsors can help with the scoop. Check these out for an example, Beale.

Wow that's alot of scoops! What do you guys think of plastic though? I like the trowel I got at Lowes, It is just the right size to pass a scoop of dirt through the center of the coil. Very handy. I find I keep putting my stuff down and pick up the MD and then, if the tools are metal, I gotta move 'em outta the way! with the plastic I don't.
One thing I got right though was the Bluetooth Audio transmitter and Bluetooth Headphones! No Cords!!! Very nice! ![]()

Deefburger a plastic scoop will work fine, especially in the dry, just don't expect it to last too long. My scoop is diamond plate aluminum, the tip of the scoop is rolled down a little from the shells, and the welds are starting to crack. Although it has been used a little for about two years now.
Frank even if bending and stooping isn't an issue the time it takes to get down, scoop and recover. If you stand and scoop it's less effort and more efficient. My scoop had the half handle, I just pushed an old metal handle over it and screwed it fast. No more bending or stooping. The time it used to take me to get down, recover and stand back up...now I'm off looking for another target. Although I can't say bending is effortless for me, especially after the second or third dozen time...
