Well SW...

a soup can is tin.... wont hold up to the sand......

its very thin.... so first time you step on it, it will crush.....

check out ebay and craigslist.com for a less expensive heavy duty scoop

Very true, but i would only be using the scoop on tot lots, (and that wont be too often)..The most of the time i will be using a hoe & pick to dig becuse of the nice hard soil here in the desert..The cheapeast one i found is for $20, so that's not too bad and might go with that option, but the homemade scoop will have to work for now...(im just a poor country boy)
And if i crush one, I will just have to eat another can of soup..

I think Buster might have made one? I know John used a el-cheapo for a while. If you are looking to save some $$ check this link, Beale.

Hey space get a piece on like 6"-8# PVC. put a cap on one end. Dril some holes just smaller than a dime. Attach a 2"x2" pressure treated handle to it with some stainless steel straps. It will work and you will not be out big bucks, Beale.

Thanks Guys..
I did not even think about PVC pipe, and i have some already in the garage...Im going to take over some frosty beverages to my neighbor, and try to get him to make me one. He works at a metal shop as a welder and always has scrap laying around in his garage.

space_weaseal...It's not too bad to make...I heated the front of mine with a small torch...the holes I drilled were 1/2 inch smaller than a dime..I got an end cap from the hardware store for about 12 bucks...The handle was off an old rake..it might hold up as long as I don't over extend it...Good luck..any questions just ask....Buster..

Thanks for the advice..
The only thing im lacking is the end cap, but i might go out there in alittle while to find the PVC and start drilling. I have to wait until Tue until my neighbor gets home, to have the metal one made...
