Default I finally got a MD!! Need some advice

I finally got a MD not exactly what I wanted ( my husband bought it for me) I got a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. My first time out I went in my yard. I found an iron rod, a Sprite can and a old pipe. My secong time tonight I got permission to md this site where a house used to be. I was very excited!! I had trouble pinpointing. Mostly of what I found were rocks!!! I was disappointed. My questions are 1) How do you pinpoint?
and 2) I hear a lot about going to parks...can you MD at parks or do you have to get permission??? Help!!

kelsmom;

I'm pretty sure if its a public park, your good. By the same token the White House belongs to us all, but heck no to md'ing that site (un-invited...If you Know Prez. Bush and he gives you the thumbs up, call me, Im in too...haha) Private property is by permission only. Be kind, fill in all of the holes you make, etc...happy hunting...!

It is a good idea to ask your local parks department. Some towns do prohibit MDing so just be sure. No hunting in Federal parks.

Pinpointing just needs a little practice. When you locate a target, make an 'X' over it to 'center' where it is. Try it at home with a target on the lawn so you can see how your coil reacts.

To be sure on the parks ask the city or county. I have found one park in this area with a no MD sign posted, it is a public park also.

On the pinpointing. Get a big ole piece of cardboard, like a box. Tape one of each kind of coin to one side spaced out. You may even want to put some pop tops and other trash items like bottle caps, etc. Take that out tou your yard flip it over and try to find the coins/junk. Try to pinpoint items. Use a dart or ice pick to poke a hole through the card board. Also write a note as to what you think it is?

Bring back inside flip over and see how well you diid, Beale. (reuse the board on the other side)

I called the city hall in my town and they said no to the one ark in town. i called city hall in the town i work in and they said i can hunt any time no restrictions. i just got permission to hunt two old houses also so it does pay to ask. start with people you know. i get my detector in may and already have more places than i have time to search.

If your machine does not have a pinpoint button or toggle switch. I would make a x shape from different directions until you hear the loudest response. It will take some time to learn pinpointing

As far as parks what Steve said! Also remember parks are laden with trash so it will be a good place to learn your new machine. You can start determining what the sounds or visual display is trying to tell you.

I started with the tracker IV also,it is a good machine to start with and becomes a good backup when you upgrade.Sensitivity at 3 oclock, disc at 11 oclock, and dig all repeatable signals. happy hunting

Glad you got your new machine...Good advise from all on pin pointing..I would also try your luck later on at the local playgrounds or school playgrounds..(Tot Lots)...they are good practice and there is always things there that the kids drop...Happy Hunting and Have Fun.......Buster...

Kelsmom, I had the same MD and was so frustrated. I kept digging rocks and couldn't figure out why I couldn't find anything. I ended up returning it and getting an ace 250. I wish I would've gotten this in the first place. It's so much easier to use, especially since I was a beginner. It's a decent price for a sturdy, solid machine.

that's just my opinion. -akajester

Default my 2 cents

Bounty hunter also has a pin pointer for around 75.00 duckies,,,
which is the cheapest one i know of that works,,
as for hunting its all hit or miss, parks,,grass parking strips, main thing is to not leave any trace that youve been there and they won't mind if you come back,, good luck,,
