Question Garrett GTP1350 vs Minelab X-Terra 70

having trouble deciding b/t these two units. Any personal experiences would be helpful.

I would use it on land for sure (Georgia) but would be using it at the beach on several occasions. While I am a beginner and could learn a complicated machine - I am looking for a fast learning curve and no TOO many tweaks to have to be concerned with.

I understand the XT has 3 available frequencies and that may be its best selling point. The GTP1350 looks like it might be easier for friends and family to use??? (read even shorter learning curve). The Garrett seems to have a sizing and depth feature, but I am not sure the XT-70 has either. I also understand the XT-70 is newer technology.

They both appear to have a salt elmination mode for enhanced performance on the beach. AND I understand if I buy an extra coil (18kHz)on the XT70 that it may then work better on the beach, otherwise do they perform equally well at the beach running at the default 7.5 kHz???

Please let me know if any of my "knowledge" is true or false and I'd love to hear from anyone who has ran both or faced the same decision.

I have the XTerra 70 and it is equally good on land or beach, you do not need to buy another coil for the beach you can use the stock coil, all you need to do is change your mode out of coin/jewellery into beach mode.
It is easy to learn and the best machine I have ever used.
Good Luck and Welcome to TQ

I've used the Garretts 2500 and if the 1350 is anything like it, I would go with the Minelab!!! Just my 2 cents.

I run a X-Terra 70. it is cery easy to learn, but allows for room to grow. Yes it does have a beach mode and a higher freq coil would be nice on the beach. Not needed but nice.

The Garrett I do not know about. I do know that it is heavier, takes more batts, and does have some nice functions. The 1350 was in my finale list of detectors before I bought my X-70.

Give our sponsors a buzz or e-mail I am sure they will help you narrow it down, Beale.

I dont have any input for you on your question but from all the comments posted since I have been reading them the Minelab brand sure has a lot of followers. I also noticed you were in Georgia. So am I. I am up in Habersham County in the NE part of the state almost to Clayton and NC line. This state really is tight when it comes to detecting where people congregate. Laws are very tight but you cant buy a cold beer on sunday. Where are you located?

Just received my GTP1350 in the mail yesterday. Havent had a chance to use it yet. I did look up allot of reviews about it and they were 99% in the 5 point range, being 1 is the lowest.

Everyone raved about this machine, so I bought it.

Will let everyone know how I feel about as soon as I find that pot of gold.

- Morgan County (near lake ononee).

ERnurse - thank you. I think that might be the 1st negative feedback (if that qualifies) I have read for the GTP1350.

I am still debating, but leaning towards the Garrett for these reasons:

1) The XT50 model (and to some extent the Xt70) have been ripped hard by several at metaldetectorreviews.net. Although some praise it. I have yet to see any significantly bad reviews of the garrett. There's been more then one owner who riped the XT-50 quality of construction - I don't imagine that differes much from the XT-70. I try to read b/t the lines - but where theres smoke..... well you know.

2) I don't see myself swapping out coils and that may the most unique feature about the X-terra

3) Garrett has the profiling feature

4) Price - at about $100 less - that about 10,000 lincoln cents in the bag before I even put the batteries in!

Still researching.....

Hi, i saw your post here and even though I dont use the 1350 I do use the 1500 and its a very good machine. I also dont have a x70 but I do have a explorer II and I love that machine as well.

I guess you will have to decide what machine is best for you, and with the research your doing you should eventually come to a descision.

In the end you will dig as much as everyone here and you will find treasure... good luck!

Good post. I beleive this a 100% accurate answer. Unfortunately, my mind is paralyzed though over analization --- (voice in my head says "does not compute - need more data"). Flip a coin or just take the lower cost unit and enjoy. Neither is working worth a damn when sitting on a shelf somewhere.
