Gary, some times jewelry and rings will read as a pull top/bottle cap..I almost always dig them..I would not want to wonder what I missed...I use a Whites XLT and it will tell me what I have found..But I try to dig all signals...Other Ace users will chime in for sure and say what they do..Happy Hunting....Buster....

Since the nickel falls between the two, it's possible to be able to find a nickel. it will eliminate the targets that will hit like the caps or tabs. I just got my 250 yesterday. Ready to learn it.

The curse of metal detecting is that pull tabs, pry tabs and the like read out about the same as gold in conductivity and iron content. Discriminating against pull tabs will likely discriminate out gold as well. Check it out with a wedding band or other gold item.

I am not sure how the disc works on a 250, but some detectors with notch have multiple PT settings, the F4 was able to disc out pulltabs and leave in Nickles/pulltabs, but like someone pointed out, you also lose some rings that fall in that range.

My first time out I went to a local campground. The targets were numerous. I spent the entire time scouring only two of the camp sites. Most targets were melted aluminum cans and pop tops from the fire pit. When they spread the ashes from the fire pits they must just spread them all over the camp site because I dug the melted gobs of aluminum all over the place. It makes it hard to dig all of the targets but you hate to walk past something of more value. Took a lot of time to cover 5-10 yards.
