Default How to search Iron ore furnace area built 1852

Hi,
I'm a Newbee in N.C. I just purchased a Minelab Quattro and am just learning about it.
I own some acreage with an old Iron Ore furnace on it and am interested in searching around it. This area has very high iron ore concentrations and there is the foundation for the Ore Keepers office near the furnace. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could best begin searching this site for coins and artifacts?\
Any suggestions or tips will be appreciated.

Hi billsmax,

Hunting in the iron concentrations your talking about should prove to be very difficult for any detector as it appears it will be overwhelmed to ID a good target. I thought about buying a Quattro and did a lot of research on it and noting your post i went back to the field test and noticed the trash density facet which should be read and reread and anytime you have overwhelming odds for pro trash VS pro good targets a smaller coil would be in order, sweep very slow and would listen for any tone differential above the iron that had any consistant lock-on and then perhaps check the visual ID and if you find any consistant pattern try digging to find out. Good Luck, HH Bill

Default Thanks for info

I do have a 5" coil with this unit also. I haven't had a chance to try it in my garden yet.
In doing a bit of reading on this forum, I've learned I need to update my garden with some coins with trash next to it and I think to prepare for my furnace, I need to put more iron objects in the garden.

Hopefully, i'll get a chance to make some additions this afternoon and then try both my 10.5" and 5" coils in the "garden".

My wife was curious about this garden as I was planting it...she wanted to know when that silver dollar was going to start bearing fruit?

Thanks for the info and any other tips would be appreciated. I hope to be able to post a picture soon of some unusual find I've made at the furnace

Hi Bill and welcome to the TQ Forum.

I believe you have an Iron mask button on your Quattro. Go ahead and reject that Iron ore by pushing that button. Also be sure to always run your Noise Cancel before detecting any site.

I'm using the EX II and they are very similar.

Good luck with that site
