Default Just starting out

Hello all.
I have been refered here by Metalman whom I know from another forum.
I am looking to start in this hobby, but first I need a good detector. I am leaning towards the Garret Ace 250 as a starter. I have had a little experience mine sweeping in my youth and I use Gradiometers and magnetometers in my everyday work so th concept is not new to me.
I want something that is fairly simple and easy to use while I learn but also something I will not grow out of too quickly. Any comments or helpful hints are most welcome.

Thanks Pappy.
Is there a Whites equivalent to the Ace 250?

Welcome to the Forum! I am partial to the Fishers, especially the 1270 model. It is very easy to use, gets great depth, great discrimination and is mid range price. Hope you have great finds in the future!

Hello! Glad to have ya here! I am fairly new to the hobby so I usually don't add a lot of info! I usually try and let the more experienced people do the talking...All I can add is I use the White's DFX and it has easy turn on and go programs. You can also program it your self. I am still in the learning process with it! Don't think I will ever out grow it!

Hope you find you a good detector and dig some great finds!

HH

Thanks all for the warm welcome.
I will go out and try both the Whites and the Garret before I buy. I am sorry but I have a strong aversion to Fisher. I have heard lots ot good things about them but I have had occaision to use an underwater version for work and I have had nothing but trouble with it.
I will keep you all posted about what I eventually purchase.

Default Made my choice and paid my money

After playing with a couple of detectors at a local store and running around just about every Pawn shop in the Houston area. I have decided on the Ace 250 mainly because its light enough for my wife to play with as well.
Put my order in today now all I have to do is wait.....I ordered at least an hour ago why isn't the UPS man here yet?
