Question HI ALL, just another newbie w/ questions

I am looking into buying my first MD, I am needing opinions on the Garrett Ace 250 and a Titan 2000xd, one of which I plan to get for myself, and I also need to know if there is a good cheap model I could get for my daughters to use, so we could do some hunting together. I wouldn't mind suggestions as to other MD's if you feel my choices are not quite right. We will most likly use them in Oklahoma while we are camping and for coin and relics. Thanks Greengiant

Default Welcome Greengiant

I had to break down and buy an Ace 250 for my 6yr old son and I like it about as good as my Garrett GTA350.

My wife has an Ace 300 that was her pick and now she has been trying to talk Zack (my son) into trading for the Ace 250. So far she hasn't had any luck. I found that Garrett far exceeded my expectations on the Ace 250 and for the price range, it is rather hard to beat. It has a lot of the higher priced features in a reasonably priced model, is lightweight and I can personally say, withstand being thrown down a 30 foot embankment with only a few minor scratches. (Don't ask!!)

How old are your daughters? Reason I asked is my 4 yr old daughter was using a Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker until her Pawpaw bought her a Garrett Ace 150 for Christmas. That is now the detector that she prefers..

My daughters are 11 and 9, and both enjoy the outdoors when we go camping, fishing, or shooting, thought this would be another way we could enjoy some time together too. Thanks all

Default One word of warning

When out detecting in the woods and on abandoned home sites, be on the lookout for feral hogs!! After a rather unnerving incedent with them I started carrying my .44 redhawk loaded with three ratshot and three hardnose shells... Plus four more reloads in speedloaders. Those things are mean and sometimes attack unprovoked. Also look out for them ground hornets!! We had an encouter with them back in Oct or Nov of last year.

Definitely get the Ace 250. Stay away from the Titan. The Ace250 is right now the best starter detector going.

From the land ofthe Bluenose.....good luck on whatever you choose. Would be nice if you could hook up with a seasoned digger in your area. Swing low, swing slow and dig deep. Awaiting tales of your adventures!

The Ace250 is now at $212. I would suggest a Prizm II with the kids short rod at 199.95. You could get the Ace250 and cut the rod back also.
