Default I’m ready to buy…a little help please…

Hi guys and gals

I haven’t posted since I went on my road trip to Nevada last April. I been lurking in the backround and reading posts, but since I haven't bought a detector yet I haven't had much to say.

Anyway...The bonus money that I was supposed to get from work, and was earmarked for me to buy a new metal detector last year wasn’t as much as I had hoped for. Besides that, as it turned out I had to use the bonus money for new tires on the car. So the boss (wife) said I could use some of our tax return money this year.

One year later and I finally have the money so let’s go shopping. I’ve been window-shopping the linked sites that T.Q. has provided and have narrowed my choices down to a handful of detectors. So if anyone out there has any experience or knowledge of these models, pros. or cons. I would be very interested in your input.

1) Bounty Hunter “Time Ranger”

2) Fisher “ID Edge”

3) Fisher “CZ-3D”

4) Fisher “ID Excel”

5) Fisher “Gold$trike”

6) Garrett “GTP 1350”

7) Garrett “GTI 1500”

8) Garrett “Master Hunter CX Plus”

9) Garrett “Scorpion Gold Stinger”

10) Mini Lab “X-Terra 50”

I’m interest in an all around unit for relicts, coins, and rings. Since I live in California and make annual trips to Nevada I want something that will be good for GOLD. Also since I live close to the coast it has to be good in salty sand as well as the heavy mineral content of the Sierra Nevada soil. I also need one with a submersible head for searching for Gold in the creeks and rivers of the foothills. Most of the use will be for relics and coins.

Oh… Did I mention that I want to search for GOLD.

And of course I want the most bang for my buck. So any input will be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Have you looked at the Tesoro Lobo Super TRAQ.? It doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the other detectors, but it is an excellent all around machine. It is very easy to operate unlike some that you have on your list. In the Garrett's, The GTI 2500 is the best all around machine. If you are getting into salt water, thats a whole different catagory of machine. I would recommend the Garrett Infinium ls (a pulse induction machine) which is good for relic, prospecting, beach/surf, and under water. It comes with land headphones, batteries and ac/dc recharger.

For what your asking my best 3 choices would be #1 Sovereign GT with a meter and advanced ground tracking probably the most bang for the buck at the salt beaches and gold sites considering all your requests but it's a bit heavy, 2nd-choice, X Terra 50 since it utilizes both 7.5kHz and the 18.75khz frequencies depending on which coil you choose, is very light weight easy to use and has excellent pinpoint feature but it's still new and unproven but i like the coin and relic abilities .3rd I would also opt for a used CZ 5 or cz 70 over the cz 3d for general usage but a cz would be my 2nd or 3rd choice depending on how much time you plan at the beach as all cz's are stable in salt water but the cz3d is geared towards older sites with little modern aluminum trash. Everyone has different experiences with different detectors so you will get many varied opinions and good luck with your choice. HH Bill

I have to agree with Bill here. The sovereign GT would be a better choice than what you listed above. The Xterra 50 will have a bunch of different coils for it literally changing it into a different detector with the coil change. I would never buy a Bounty Hunter for gold , The CZ3D is a strict coin detector as are the Edge and Excel. The Gold hunters you mention are basically one dimensional for gold hunting only ( gold hunting doesn't include rings and such. That would be jewelry hunting). All in all , the Soveriegns have benn proven winners.

I would really look hard at the MXT and Lobo Super Traq and Tejon.Go to a multi line dealer and ask to try them out first.Get on those forums and ask.

I'm going to agree with Warsawdaddy, the Whites MXT or the Tejon by Tesaro are the best in my opinion. Tsgman

Default New Detector

Whites MXT is what I use and love it. Unless you dig in my neck of the woods, then I would go with the bounty hunter time ranger. LOL just kidding.

With the new special they have going its a good deal. The detector is a top of the line detector and works as well as just about any other . I feel there are better detectors but you really won't be dissapointed with the 2500. Once you understand it it will work well for you.
