Default 1236x2 depth issues

I am new to the fisher 1236x2 and havent detedted for 15 yrs +.I now have this 1236x2 ran it today and it hits coins like no tomorrow ie it gets dimes down at 10 inches and all other coins as well. I was used to tr so not a issue but this detector goes WAY deeper than i ever went before ie bh compass and a whites back in the late 70's early 80's.tried at the house here (5 acres) and dug as far as measured 12 inches to get a penny.Seems this detector is really deep just wondering if anyone else has any inout on the 1236x2 and its capabilities. i did go to a outdoor theater and found over 40 coins there and at the ball park next to it in less than 3 hours. I did find my first wheatie at the ball park to (fitting it was found at the ballpark i think). Anyway id like to hear of others using the 1236x2 here..........

Scroll down on the main forum page to Metal Detector Reviews (Fisher).Billntx has a fisher and although not an xlt,he has found deep coins with a lessor model. He can probably advise you as to settings.

never found anything real deep with the 1236x2 but found a lot of stuff with it, especially in areas where some other detectors would null. I found the little 5" coil to be a killer trash hunter and also in areas with a lot of decomposing iron, up against old home foundations and under bleachers, etc. I recently traded the 1236x2 after buying a Whites IDX Pro and found comparable performance between the two using both the 5" and 8" coils but got spoiled with target id.
As far as settings it appears your doing just fine.I'll post a tips url for the 1236x2 that has some great info. HH Bill

Default Fisher 1236

I am impressed, the deepest penny iv,e found was at 8"-9".
is the Fisher silent search?Iv,e gotten usedto threshold except for a loaner bounty hunter.
Is it Non motion pinpoint?Iv,e also gotten used to pushbutton detune ,maybe need to learn new tricks
Iv,e just bought a prizm 4 but could have got a 1236 for about the same price, maybe made a mistake<i don,t know yet.
I guess maybe ive also been spoiled by target Id .
Bestregards and HH,Mont

Hi Monte,
The 1236x2 is silent search, preset GB, has pushbutton VCO no-motion pinpoint that can be detuned. Never used a Prizm but can say the 1236x2 is an excellent detector. HH Bill

Default 1236x2

Well monte I havent heard or seen the prism4 except ads on here so i dont know what it really does. It is ID and yes Monte ID is fantastic. Alas the 1236x2 is NOT ID just sound but to us older user types that was and is our bread and butter type of detecting. As bill (de) said the 1236x2 has silent mode just flick switch and it dosent seem to affect depth much. It does kick the disc a little upward to kill a bit more items it seems. As to depth of coins we All know the age ground etc play a part. The best thing to do is take your detector and practice in your yard then EVERY time you setup at a site test it first. That I know seems slow but just throw a quarter nickle dime penny on ground run over em a couple times to see how the detector hits them at that site. I went out yesterday to a park in copperas cove tx and hit 15 coins in less than an hour. 8 were silver clad (sic) clad as in someone tinted them with silver.LOL but seriuosly it was fun for one hour and all coins were 4" or less. I had the 1236x2 sens turned down to almost zero and disc up to six killing almost everthing including rings i might have found. I did this after testing the detector on factory sens setting 8 and was hitting pennys down deep at 10 inches. Remember clay soil and wet, great glue combo around here. So i backed off and did fairly good.
The moral is monte to keep getting out as often as possible, and above all else ENJOY the find...no matter what!
