Default <--- noob scuba/rare coin/MD dude

Hey everyone!

Just figured I should introduce myself at least once before I start posting on threads. Just a lil' about me...

Atlanta, GA
...avid scuba diver (I have no scuba gear though)
...lifelong numismatist (I have no collection though)
...novice MD'er (I have no metal detector though)

Before I make myself sound completely useless, let me explain. My father was a rare coin dealer for quite a long time, from before I was born til I was about 11 yrs. old. I had a coin collection I could tell you all about by the time I was five and though all but one sentimental piece has been long sold I certainly learned a lot being raised on it. As an adult I've successfully bought and sold many tens of thousands of dollars in US rare coins, although I got lazy and haven't done anything in the last year and right now probably only have a couple hundred bucks of what dealers consider crap laying around. No one piece worth more than $15 or so. So I have no collection at the moment, but moving from collector to dealer can do that.

All that being said, if I can be of any use to anyone regarding rare US Silver please let me know. I'll tell you up front I know next to nothing about gold, was just never quite rich enough to get into it for real.

I'm a long time scuba diver and lived in FL for my first 25 yrs. During that time I spent so much time wearing fins and a wetsuit I should have grown gills. I worked for a company for a while called SCUBA Scrubbers. We cleaned barnacles off boats while they were in the water. Yay! Spending eight hours a day under a nasty barnacle covered boat isn't much fun. But between that and recreational diving, I do have water experience. I sold my gear when I moved to Atlanta as I knew there'd be little point owning it at the time.

I don't own a metal detector yet, but I'm serious about getting started and am doing my homework before I buy. I'm interested only in relic hunting for civil war items and MD'ing on scuba. I have no interest in coins considering my background there, and I don't live near any beaches. I'm also not interested (yet) in prospecting.

What I'm planning is to combine what I already know with MD'ing, so if there's anyone out there into relic hunting and MD'ing who's also a certified diver (have an AOW NAUI cert) and wouldn't mind a new hunting buddy, I'd love to hear from you. I'm in the process of purchasing a new set of gear and by that time I'll have figured out what MD to get (thinking Tesoro).

And that goes for anyone else who actually read this whole thing and lives anywhere close to Atlanta, GA. If you're into relic hunting and wouldn't mind showing a noob the ropes (I'm not into getting in trouble for trespassing, hunting federal land, historical sites, etc) I'd appreciate a hand up getting my feet wet in the MD'ing arena. In return I promise to be as useful as possible regarding coins and diving if that's worth anything to ya. Oh yeah, I'm good for a laugh now and again too! =P

Welcome Pisces and great to meet you. You will find good advice here and the people here at Treasure Quest are fantastic! You have come to the right place. Relic hunting is a lot of fun and you need to do some good research then the fun starts. CU later and be careful.

Welcome Pisces,

I live a mere 40 min. from Atlanta. I'm not into Civil War or Relic hunting but I've done research in my area and the Atlanta region. As far as Relic hunting goes I like to look for arrowhead's and I'm not familiar with your area.

I do collect coin's and love the "Wheat". I only collect those since I only started in Nov. 2005. I do love the history of coin's and try collect if the price is within reason.

Welcome again, I look forward to your post's.

Rhubarb
