exterra 50 or Gerrett 1350

I am new to this board and the hobby. I am looking at purchasing a new MD. I am getting all kinds of advice and from stores and online that I decided to post this questions to all you users out there. I am looking at spending somewhere between 300-600.00 hundred dollars. I want a good detector that I dont really have to upgrade in the future unless I really get hooked. I live in NC and will be using it in the mountains, beaches, lakes, parks, old houses and anywhere else I think might be good. I keep hearing about our soil here and they point me in different directions. Since these detectores are about the same price I guess I am just looking for some goood easy advice that a beginner can understand. Any help would be appreciated. My children will also be using this with me and they are 10 and 13. Thanks, Eric
