I am interested in getting into metal detecting, mainly to find Civil War Artifacts. Here are my questions.
1. What is the best bginner metal detector? 2. Is a pinpointer necessary? 3. How do you go about finding Civil War artifacts? Where do you look, the battlefields are off limits right? 4. Whats the best thing you ever found? Thanks in advance, Bill |

Hi and welcome. To find what you're looking for in my opinion you'll need a little better than beginner model of metal detector. Relics of the Cival War kind can be deep in some areas and the beginner detectors (although they will find targets) will not go as deep as you need for the most part. With that being said , I feel the Garrett Ace250 is the best starter detector on the market for the money. Many places where soldiers camped are on private property. All you need do is ask for permission. If you'd like to talk over your options give me a call.
