Default Where do I start, many ?'s

I am interested in getting into metal detecting, mainly to find Civil War Artifacts. Here are my questions.

1. What is the best bginner metal detector?
2. Is a pinpointer necessary?
3. How do you go about finding Civil War artifacts? Where do you look, the battlefields are off limits right?
4. Whats the best thing you ever found?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

Hi and welcome. To find what you're looking for in my opinion you'll need a little better than beginner model of metal detector. Relics of the Cival War kind can be deep in some areas and the beginner detectors (although they will find targets) will not go as deep as you need for the most part. With that being said , I feel the Garrett Ace250 is the best starter detector on the market for the money. Many places where soldiers camped are on private property. All you need do is ask for permission. If you'd like to talk over your options give me a call.

Default Welcome

WELCOME to the FAMILY here at TREASUREQUEST. I have to agree with Tony in that the ACE250 is a Wonderful Detector...Not just for the beginner but for the pro alike. I have been hunting well over 50+ years and I purchased an ACE250 back in Aug. of 2005. One of the BEST detectors that I have ever owned. Mine has certainly paid for itself during the time I have had it. Very simple to learn and use. Great for Relics ( I used to hunt C.W. Relics all the time for a living) coins and jewlery....PAPPY
