Default Just starting out, think i may be hooked

hey folks been going through these forums for a few hours now, thought i would sign up and say hi. i have picked myself up a cheapy detector thinking it will keep me amused and get me outside and into the fresh air. Seems like one of these things were i will get hooked and am going to end up spending big, so for from what ive seen my cheapy little detector seems to be holding its own and has surprised me with its results, give it a few months though and i will be wanting the best, anyway just a message to say hi and that i will probably be lurking on these forums for awhile.

p.s included pics of the very extensive manual for my detector

p.s.s my first finds were a bottle cap a metallic rock a washer and some form of clip

Default as for never hearing of it

i am unsure of what method its using to detect, it does have any differance in tone when detecting and it detects it a series of beeps, you never get a constant tone just increasing rapidness in the beep till its nearly constant, after looking at the differant types im leaning towards it being a pulse induction system after looking on wikipedia. it has the ability to deal with minerlized soil and salt water sand, it adjusts the system every 5 secs to the soil conditions, any help in what method its using would be appreciated, as for the rock my gf has moved and im unable to locate it at the moment

This hobby is ALOT of fun !!! I started out with a Bounty Hunter Quick Draw || and found alot of goodies with it for about 2 years and desided to upgrade to a Whites Spectrum XLT . YOU WILL get addicted to this hobby real quick !! Just dont give up !!! If ya take your detector to the right places where there is people traffic and do RESEARCH on OLD areas !!! THE GOODIES WILL COME !!! GOOD LUCK !!!!! KENNETH

Sounds like you have a BFO detector which is real old technology.

not that im 100% but for a bfo detector wouldnt the tell tale sign of this type be a wound coil in the control box, after inspecting the internals it is a heap of standard electronics with a few ic chips but no sign of a coil, also has 3 wire running down to the main coil. if this is of any help in identifying what type it is please let me know

i was commenting on how you described the operation. It may not be a BFO but by your desciption of the operation it sounds like it to me. Maybe just a matter of semantics here. In any case it looks like a very cheap model like those sold on ebay.Sorry.
