Default Discovery 2200

I live in Columbus Ohio near the Radio Shack factory outlet store and got the 2200 for $69.00. I have a big yard so I have been searching there. So far I have used it about 2 hours I have a lot of pull tabs and 43 cents. I had to dig some big holes to find some of the items but I hope with practice that will improve. My question is on all metal mode it will pick up iron almost all the time and say 8-9 inch deep. My detector also has button called "zap" I can't figure out what is does.

Default Manual Location

Stainless,

Go to the following link and you can download a PDF of the manual for your detector. Bounty Hunter made this model for RS. I have the same detector, but it is the version sold by BH. Other than the faceplate, they are identical. In checking my yard (1946), I was able to find about 50 coins.

Primarily now I use a Fisher CZ-3D and let my dad use the BH. Overall, it is a good beginner unit. Watch out though, when the MD bug bites, it can bite hard and make you want to spend a lot more on it (AKA a more expensive model!). It's a great hobby though.

Good Luck and HH,

Eric

Actually the Discovery detectors made by Bounty Hunter are exclusive to Radio Shack and are not the same as the Bounty Hunter models carried by detector dealers. They are made for the mass market only and are therefor of less quality. I think that you can go out nad have a lot of fun with one but they are limited in what they can do. All metal is just that ; it WILL pick up all metals and will probably find larger iron at the depths you mention. Once the discriminator is engeged a loss of depth occurs as well as sensativity.
Good Luck.

Default Manual

That link was a big help I didn't get a manual in the box guess thats why it was only $69.00. I did find a bunch of tin cans about 10 inches to 1 foot deep in my back yard. I was getting very wierd readings so I just kept digging. I am going to hit a few local parks near my house where I have seen other people in the past searching.

Default Discovery 2200 few days use.

I have used it a total of about 5-6 hours, still seems like it is hard to pinpoint. I have found a total of 94 cents and the oldest coin was 1955. I didn't count the bottle caps, pull tabs, and crushed cans. I tried a "trashy" area near where I work it is next door to a carry out. I would say a trashy area is a BAD place for a newbie to use this detector. I did an area where I had dropped a lot of tacks and nails in the past, the detector seems miss identify tacks a bit. I have been digging a lot so I found a link to a stud finder pinpointer.

I didn't have one like that but a friend of mine had a similar one called a Little Wizard II. I didn't want to try to modify it since it was a loan but I played with the fine tuning and I could find a buried dime at 1.5-2 inches and a Kennedy 50 cent piece at 3 inches.

Default Welcome!

Hey Stainless, welcome to the group. I'm just a little East of you in Newark. Where is the Radio Shack Outlet located. I'm trying to find a cheap detector as a backup and so I can take friends out with me who don't have detectors. I haven't heard alot of good things about the Radio Shack detectors but for that price, if it finds metal, it;s good enough right. Let us know how you like the detector, and good luck hunting.

Default Discovery 3300

I was using my 2200 at work and fellow worker was helping me dig up stuff on our break. I showed him how to work it and he found almost 70 cents near our parking lot. He offered to buy my detector for the $70 I paid for it. I sold it to him and went a Radio Shack that is closing near my house and got the last Discovery 3300 for $111.00 plus tax. While I was in the store someone was on the phone trying to get them to hold it. I just hit my back yard for 30 mins and found 4 pennies and 3 dimes that were near iron trash the 2200 had missed.
