Default Hello

Hello everyone. I am relocating to New Bern, NC. next month and am wanting to finally start metal detecting, something I have wanted to do real bad for last few years. I am researching metal detectors and have read alot on the Ace250. Sounds like the one for me, but not 100% sure. I will be doing most of my detecting on land, but would like to wade into the ocean. Also, I LOVE the rain, and will be out in it detecting for sure. Any thoughts as to if I should go with the 250 or is there another that would let me do all the above?

Lastly since I will be in New Bern does anyone know and good spots to check out? I went to Moorehead City and that looked like a pretty nice beach.

Thanks ALOT for any input you give!!! This is a great site!!!!!

Default Welcome

DIGGINS, WELCOME to the FAMILY here at TREASUREQUEST.
New Bern is GREAT for Civil War artifacts and if you get the chance to travel a bit, try all along the Cape Fear River.
The ACE 250 is a Wonderful little instrument ( I have one myself) but I have never tried it around salt water so I couldn't say what it would do there. Be sure to get you a rain cover so the housing does not get wet.
Some of our Great Sponsors here on Treasurequest will be glad to help you with your purchase and use of your detector.
GREAT HUNTING and again WELCOME to the Family. We will look forward to your pic's. and post's. PAPPY

Hi and welcome. The ace250 is a great little starter detector for land and beach but , if you were to go into the salt wet sand and water it doesn't perfrom as expected and may not at all. If you are planning on going into the water a lot then I would suggest that you get a little better detector like the Tesoro Silver uMax or Cibola. Let me know if ther is anything else I can do for you.

Hi Diggins, Really good to meet you and sounds like your ready to get started in this great hobby ! The ACE 250 is a nice instrument for it's price. But I don't know if money is limited, since you are planning on going out in the rain and the ocean I would go for something like the Tiger Shark by Tesoro or the Minelab Excalibur. These detectors are completely waterproof and submersible. Ok Diggins if I can be of assistance to you I would love to help you out. God Bless and take care and enjoy the hobby !

Thank you all very much for responding. I am thinking since this will be my first metal detector, I should probably not go crazy on the investment side. I think it's between the Ace250 and the Silver Umax. I know I will be detecting everywhere I can, and I just know I will be at the ocean alot. Please by all means if anyone has any ideas, tips, etc. let me know. Untill my detector arrives I will be reading up on the places to go, etc. Thank you again for responding. I can't wait to share my first find.
