Default Help me decide

I am trying to decide on a metal detector. I am going to be mostly relic hunting in Louisiana. I am thinking about either the Fisher 1236-x2 or the minelab musketeer advantage. The last metal detector I owned was a Whites xlt and I am not looking to spend as much for another metal detector. Also whats up with these MPseries metal detectors junk or not?

I would go with the Minelab! I used to have a Fisher 1236 and liked it but it lacked the relic hunting capabilities that I wanted for deep targets! I currently use a Fisher 1270 and really like it.

Default Which one?

Check with Kelli co as they have them broken down by price range. MP series is Chinese made. I had one and didn't like it and traded it back for a USA made model. Check the features of the Tesoro brand also. I suggest one with a optional manual ground balance because being in LA you sooner or later will be around salt water. A salt elim feature would be helpful also. I don't know what features you can find in your price range so look 'em over and make your decision that way.Monty

Why not support a forum dealer instead of the non suportive Kell(y)co ?
I would like to suggest the Tesoro Tejon. It is a killer relic detector and preferred by many from your area of the country. If you don't like its features then the Musketeer would be the next choice. Don't sell the Tejon short .... it can go deep and find the goodies. Let me know if you need any more help in your decision.

I used a 1236x2 and an Advantage for a couple yrs and still have the Advantage. The 1236x2 is a quality detector but the Musky is still one of my favorites.I never used a Tejon but for the money and even if it was more costly the Advantage is probably one of the best relic detectors out there. I also have been using a Sov GT but what i like about the Advantage is you can move relatively quick whereas the Sovereign must be swept slowwww. The Advantage will go deep even with the 7.25" coil as i've pulled wheaties ,buttons and small buckles at about 9" in good soil with little trouble and a few early IH's at an old iron infested site where a few other detectors just snap, crackled and popped.
Perhaps one of the forum sponsers could give you a nice deal on whatever you choose. HH Bill
