Well today was my first outing with my BH Tracker IV. I found Zip - nothing - zilch.

Hi JoAnne. Start with minimal disc and go from there . Bench test the detector to see how it responds on different targets as well as different settings. this should help you understand better.

It's not your detector but the locations that you choose. Like they say it's location, location, location.....Go to the library and do some research find out where the older sections of the city are! Ask Friends to hunt their old or new home sites. Do it for the experience!!! Once you have gotten permission to hunt a old home site ask the owner for a letter of recommendation to hunt other properties and to give you any names of persons their he/she thinks that may give you permission to hunt their land!! This works like the dominole principal. So be on your best behavior and do not leave gaping holes, in fact only use a screw driver to locate and retrieve your targets. Most homeowners are only curious on what you find and let you keep it all , while others want 50% If they want more than 50% i would walk away....And do this agreement at least verbally before the 1st target is retrieved it will save a lot of stress and aggravation!!! Also discuss how to split a pot of gold coins (for laughs) And I always say 50% split right on the spot!!!GOOD LUCK AND HOPED I HAVE HELPED!!!!!

Joe - thanks for the information. It is hard to find places to hunt around here. I have asked one person for permission and I was denied. They said they could not let anyone on their property because of insurance purposes. I had one other friend that said I could hunt his land for a 50-50 split. So basically I have been hitting schools and local parks. Ihave found a few things but not he "big" one yet. Thanks again. JoAnne

JoAnne, I am new to md'ing as well. I have been practicing in my yard all morning. I know that the only things I will find are rusty nails and pieces of scrap aluminum, as this lot has been filled with about 3 ft of fill and I have owned the home from the start.
Still, I will throw some coins in the yard and some pull tabs to practice with. Been doing it all morning. I do adjust the sensitivity down a notch or two two but otherwise I am in all metal mode. When I get a tone, I go to pinpoint and work on it from there. I am still getting used to the machine and have not really gotten used to the other features, although I have been messing with them this morning. Maybe try some area away from the swing and play area just to get a less dirty area. I know I found alot of paperclips and foil in the direct play areas. I was out for the first time ever in a school yard yesterday for about two hours. I did find some modern coins, a toy ring, a silver pendant, and lots of paperclips, pull tabs, and foil. Keep at it as you will get rewarded. Good luck. KD |
