Hello to all. Just came back from my first outing with my new Bounty Hunter/Radio Shack 3300 (what a bargain).
First time out-about 2 hours at the local school yard. Practiced in my own backyard a little this morning. My lot will not give me anything as it is fairly new contruction with about 3 feet of fill. I lived there since home was built 8 years ago. Did find the property markers, a washer and some nails, scrap pieces of aluminum. At the school yard I found a quarter, five pennies, a childs metal ring (stamped steel) and the best piece was a silver pendant of a crucifix (necklace). Just the pendant, no chain. It is stamped on the back either "925 or .925 sterling" then a single letter that I can't make out. Looks like a k or an r . All in all it was a productive first day. Lots of paper clips, and some aluminum foil, a couple pull tabs. Enjoyed the time spent. Need to get used to this detector. I was just running in all metal mode, and when I got a signal, I would switch to pinpoint mode and dig away. Of course I replaced all holes (I made flaps) and took all trash found. Gonna return tommorrow with my daughter. I am hoping she will get the bug also. At least the playground will keep her entertained if the MD'ing does not. So, just wanted to introduce self, say hello, and brag aout my first time out. Other than casual use of Grampa's old Compass Judge 1, I have never done any MD'ing before. I am hooked. I will now plan on at least some MD'ing when out camping, hunting, fishing, etc. Have been lurking here for about a week, so I also wanted to say thanks for all the great info as well. Time to hit the website search feature. KD |

Thanks for the warm welcome. I allready figured out that a hand gardening shovel is not gonna cut it. Need something heavy duty. Might just have to weld something up. I did some searching on trowels seems like their are a few nice ones out there.
It rained most of the morning and the ground was wet for about 3 inches, so I think that helped. Might go check out to the public beach near home as well on sunday. Might pick up a wal mart kids detector for my daughter when we go to the school yard, it across the street! Only complaint about my MD'er so far is the volume control. It has none! Sure wish I could turn the volume down a little. Don't like wearing head phones. KD Last edited by kd460; 08-20-2006 at 07:33 AM. |

Sorry, but they are a neccessity except in rattlesnake territory! Headphones saves you money on the batteries, You can reduce the volume from your detector with one, keep your head warm in winter, helps to hear weak and soft signals so you won't miss the big one. Also, it keeps people from bothering you especially if you say you can't hear them, which is true! Hope this helps......

Yes, I have been using headphones on and off, but, some of my detecting is not is rattlesnake country, but it is in bear country!
Had ball with the detector this weekend. Went to a friends place that has a farm, been in the family for about 100 years. The house was relocated in the 1940's on the same parcel, so I detected the old site with the owner and his son. They are now converts! I imagine they will buying a detector some time this week! Found lots of cool stuff, no old coins though. Old silver spoon, old skeleton key, old shotgun shells, parts to an old stihl (moonshine) and tons of other debris. Gonna go back in a couple of weeks. My buddies son really took to it, and he is gonna display every found item inside the barn. Did pass on a golden opportunity! Feel bad about it, but not enough time. When I was driving to the farm, in town, they were restoring the old train station. The parking lot was just ripped out for repaving. Man that was a tough one to pass up but I had no time! I can only imagine what was lying there! Hate to think about it. I'm sure it will be paved by the time I return (150 miles from home). KD |
