Thumbs up Still a newbee

While I've owned a md for some 10 years or so, I still consider myself a newbee. I say that because I never put a lot of effort into learning about the hobby until recently.
I have had a couple of significant finds. Both from the same site (although years apart).
Several years ago I went to a local site called Plummer's Landing. This place is along the Blackstone Canal in Northbridge MA. It has been gone over for years by detectorists. Armed with a Radio Shack md, I had a hit. Digging about 4" down I found a 22 shell. At first I thought that was it, but I decided to sweep over the hole and still got a hit. I dug a little more and I found a 1864L Indian Head penny. It turned out to be in excellent condition. It must have been dropped very early on.
About 3 months ago, now armed with a White's DFX, I swept the same area and within 10 minutes unearthed a 1823 dime. It too was in pretty good shape (although not in new condition like the penny).

So as a newbee, my first lesson is persistance. No matter how much a site has been gone over, there's probably something there for you to find.

Default Bust Dimes

Traj, that is a beautiful BUST DIME. Wish our finds here were that old. Finds like that are very rare here. So good luck and take advantage of your location and hunt it up real good. Show us more of your future finds..... Thanks
