Default ACE 250 "package deal"

Hello everyone,
I have never been metal detecting before much less ever owned one but, I have itch for a long time and I couldn't resist it anymore. My wife thinks I have too many hobbies already!

I am counting down the days to when my layaway is payed out. I found someone to put together package of everything I would need to get started right away.

A Brand new ACE 250 with the usual extras plus a few more at my request; DVD instructions, manual, carry bag, coil cover, batteries, treasure apron, deluxe headphones, deluxe digging tool, coin probe, metal sand scoop, extra 9x12 PROformance coil w/cover.

All for $330.00 "including" shipping. He said I could take 4 months or so to pay but I don't think I can wait that long.

Is this pretty good deal?

Where I grew up in Arkansas, I know of several Civil War sites, in particular some ferry crossings. As well as some old whiskey still and house places. Not to mention all of the old swimming holes on Saline river.
I now live in Abilene, Texas.

Steve

Oedius - the impoirtant thing is do YOU think you got a good deal. Boobie is right if you live in an area where you have access to many stores, brands and types then you probably or might of been able to do better because of the competition. If you live in an area where Metal Detecting is not such a big hobby then you probably did great. Lets face it a MD is only a good deal if you use it and use all that comes with it. Otherwise it is money wasted. I checked and saw that 250s go for around $212. Then to add taxes plus the carrying case and the video and the extra coils and the other things plus not have to pay shipping - I do not think it is a bad deal at all. That is just my humble opinion.

Enjoy your 250 and find lots of things so that you can recoup your money fairly quickly. JoAnne

I'm sure I probably did get in a bit too big of a hurry. I knew practically zero about MD's 4 or 5 weeks ago so I went on internet for crash course. I finally settled on the 250 because of bang for buck factor and the overwhelming amount of positive testimonials. I contacted numerous sellers on Ebay looking for best deals and flexible payment plan. The couple I'm buying from are "Detectorists" themselves and have been Garrett dealers for many years.

I didn't think of using regular nail apron or old screw driver. I had checked out Kellyco, T.C., and some others. They all had very good prices. I guess I just felt good about dealing with this couple after all the talks we had. I feel I know them even if it's only been phone & internet.

You know, I can't remember the last time I witnessed anyone using MD! I hope that maybe it means I will have lots of virgin territory to hunt. Lately, everywhere I go I'm thinking of what if I had MD right now and what I might find.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve - sometimes paying more is worth it if you have someone locally that you can get information from. I would gladly pay more if I had local support. As far as using a nail apron and screw driver....that is something that you learn after MDing for years. They are tricks of the trade. There is no one in my area so when I need help I have to come here or try and explain what the problem is in a email which sometimes is very difficult. I think you did good. Being able to show someone the problem is worth a few extra bucks. Part of this whole MDthing is getting excited about the hunt. The fact that you did do some research and picked a 250 is a good choice (One I wish I had made before I bought my BH Tracker IV. I did not find this site til after my purchase.) I looked at what some of the options were that you purchased and to me I believe you did an excellent deal. I am fairly new to this also so my opinion is not expert by no means. Don't let your enthusiasm dwindle because you might have paid a little more than someone else. Eventually you will get it all back in the finds that you make. In the meantime enjoy the hunt and keep getting excited about the process. Happy Hunting JoAnne

id say you didnt do that bad. they certainly arent giving anything to you, but you could have done worse. sometimes the service after the sale is worth a couple of extra beans in my opinion. it sounds like this dealer will be able to help you with questions after the sale. try to get that from kellyco! you did ok.

Thanks everyone,
Like I said, the fact that the couple I'm buying from seems to actually enjoy answering all of my questions and also talking to me about all of their MDing exploits means a lot to me. By the time I finally get it paid out, it will be cooler weather (hopefully) and that will be good. I use digital camera at work so all I need to do is learn how to post pics here on this site. Afraid I'm not very up on that kind of thing.

Steve
