Default Getting discouraged

I have been out several times over the last week or two. Not sure what I am doing wrong. My first week I found 2 civil war buttons and also a gold ring. I have found nothing since. Just pop tops and bottle caps. Not even any change. Not sure why. I have gone to parks and beaches and different areas. Get tons of signals. So many I get tired of digging cuz I know it will just be another pop top. Any suggestions? I have a cheap BH Tracker IV. JoAnne

JoAnne have you tried laying some coins down and going over them with your detector to see if it is picking them up? Maybe you have the discrimination setting wrong and are eliminating good signals.
Good luck and I hope you start digging good stuff

all good things come to people who wait,i agree with cchughs but also try digging some holes at 1 to 6 inches deep, then burying different coins at those depths to get some knowledge of what your detector is telling you.

JoAnne....I'm with the others also....don't get discouraged! Even the experienced people on here have times of drought and nothing is surfacing!

That's what happens to people with this hobby and they give up right away! It takes time and effort, along with research.....besides it's just nice getting outdoors and swinging.. especially this time of year, being cool out and the leaves will be changing....if your from the Northeast or mid part of the US!

I feel your pain JoAnne, I have many days like that....like today found nothing but poptabs and THAT canslaw stuff. Look for old abanded houses or where houses use to be, If you know any of your friends or family with old homes you could always ask to hunt their yard, Old churches or schools are good to try also. I think the last time you where discouraged you went out and found your ring, you will find something soon I'm sure of that.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I know we all have these days.

Indy you are right - the last time I was discouraged I found the ring. Maybe my luck will change again.

I will keep trying and not get disocuraged. Ernesto is coming thru at the moment and for the next day. Maybe Monday things will get better and I will be able to go hunting. Thanks again everyone. HH JoAnne

Is there anyone in your area Joanne, who has some experience in this hobby? If you were near me I'd be happy to take you to the park and find some signals for you to check with your machine. You don't need a test garden...you need a test pilot.

Everybody kind of thinks it's just bum luck.....I don't know. It may be just that, but it also could be the way you are tuning the detector. The types of places you've gone to shouldn't be devoid of diggable (good) targets.

If there's a club in your area....maybe somebody would take you under their wing. I would...but we're a half a continent apart....and the commute would be atrocious.

Thanks Wyatt I appreciate the offer. To my knowledge there are no clubs in my area. Not even anyone that hunts. My detector makes one sound. It beeps or it doesn't. When it beeps the needle pegs all the way to the right. It also does not pin point. Many times I dig but find nothing and I am sure it is just that I am not digging in the correct area. Usually I get an area of about 24 X 24 to dig in. Even with doing an X it is hard to narrow it down in that large a spot without a pin pointer. I know BHs are good machines but I think that I might need one that has a little bit more whistles and bells so that I can get deeper and pinpint better. I am going to see Tony at TC Detectors (a 5 hour drive from me) the end of September. I just happen to be going that way for a wedding. Hopefully Tony can help me out. JoAnne
