Default The lingo?

Hi everyone. I Just got my Ace 250 today! I can't wait to take it out! Reading through posts on here I see certain words that I am not sure of the meaning of. I figured the Newbie room would be the best place to ask.
Can someone explain some of the terms like:
What is Clad? etc.

Thanks a lot for the link!!

Well I just got back in from about 15min in the back yard. It appears I am going to have to do a lot more research on how to metal detect because this Ace 250 was going nuts. I dug a couple holes but came up empty. Any tips for this total newbie is greatly appreciated. I am going to start a log of my metal detecting.

There is almost some woods beside my house. Looks like they cleared everything where the homes are and left that as some sort of either boundry or something. Deer have been seen in this too. Anyway I am wanting to go detecting through that after I figure out the thing.

Hi Diggins and welcome aboard. Myself and a few others on here use the Ace 250, so any questions you may have , all you have to do is ask. It takes time, patience, practice and alot of digging to learn the detector. So get out there and swing that coil, we look forward to hearing about your finds!

Thank you. I have been reading and reading. One person mentioned making the cord tighter. So I am going to test out a few tips and hopefully it works. Thanks again for the tips, etc.

Hi Diggins ,
Making the cord tighter is probably refering to wrapping the coil cord tighter around the shaft as you take out the slack approaching the connection to the box. You need a little slack at the coil to allow movement as not to crimp the wires and also before the box connection.
Some detectors will give false signals if the cord is too loose or arcs out over the coil.
Boobie gave a nice link and here's another that may help understanding detector terminology.
