I posted a question in another (wrong) part of the forum about buying a new metal detector to replace my 1976 vintage White's Coinmaster IV. Both the Ace 250 and Bountyhunter Quickdraw II are priced in the low 200's range. Which is better for typical treasure hunting? (I noticed that the Bountyhunter has automatic ground balance versus preset for the Ace 250, but I don't know what this means). I mostly intend to hunt at my Dad's ca 1850 homestead.

I agree with MWS. The Ace 250 has gotten great reviews here. I had a bounty hunter tracker IV. I found things with it and it was alot of fun but did not take me long until I got frustrated with not being able to go deep enough to get the old coins. I was going to buy the Ace 250 but I traded up to a Whites Prism V. I have only had the Prism for about a month and am still learning it. Wish I had just spent the money to begin with and gotten the better machine. So my advise is to buy the best you can afford and not waste the time. Happy Hunting and looking forward to seeing your finds. JoAnne

BOTH ARE PROBABLY EQUALS ON DEPTH. Garrett has a very good reputation on fast and reliable service, if it is ever needed. Also look at all the accessories that are available on both. The Garrett always offered a lot in this area! Also when hunting, do not always rely on the target id many rings fall into the pulltab and screwcap areas. This is a mistake that many newbies fall into. GOOD LUCK AND GOOD HUNTING.......

Go with the Ace250. Better overall for many reasons.
