Default Radio Shack 63-3003 Detector

Hello to all... I am new to the forums and the hobby. This detector has been sitting around for a while. My Dad gave it to me and I don't think he ever used it. I have an old home place I'd like to search, but I don't know if using this detector would be worth the effort. Judging by the box, it's pretty dated. Since I'm just getting started, A detector shop in my area recommended a Tesoro Silver U/Max. There is another small dealer in my area selling Whites detectors. In a Whites, what is comparable in price and performance to the Silver U/Max? Comments and suggestions appreciated.

Happy Hunting!

Hello and welcome to TQ
Everyone here is helpful so someone will be able to answer your questions, I'm not familiar with any of those detectors so I'm unable to.
Good luck and Happy Hunting

i have used a 63-3004 radio shack detector ,setting the ground bal. was a bugger. but i did find a lot of old coins and rings with it. read the instructions and test, read the instructions again, and test it. go and use it,you will find things and learn in the process.i'm sure after you master this detector and total up your finds, you will have enough $$ to upgrade to a newer and maybe better det. then use the new one to go over the same ground again and find more great stuff
