Default Need some advise

Hello all....I am new to this hobby, and as such am in the market for a detector....I have norrowed my choices down to three..Two of them are GARRETT units on the opther one being one from the BOUNTY HUNTER line...
The GARRETTS that am looking at are the ACE 250, and the GTAx 550,
am not sure on the units in the Bounty Hunter line.
Not that I want to start a user war, but am looking for some user input as to which would be the better choice for hobby use.
I reside in Canada, so finding any information is at best difficult, and VERY confusing
I am leaning toward the GARRETT units, but am not sure if the difference in price Acer 250 @$275.00 vs the GTAx 550 at $550..00 is warrented.
ANY information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Bill

You can PM (Private Message) to one of the Sponsors they have lots of information and maybe be able to get you a better deal. Good luck in your hunting. Doug

Default Howdy Newbie

I too am kinda new to the hobbie. My first and only detector was the Garrett Ace 250. I didn't have anyone around here to hunt with at the time so it was kinda learn as I go and all the great folks on this site helping me. Anyway the 250 was really easy to learn and seems to work great. I am finding all kinds of stuff, in fact the dang thing has paid for itself in clad. Been hunting with it since Feb.
I can't compare it to the others but I have never been sorry for getting the Ace 250.
Good luck.

Welcome Bill! I suggest asking one of TQ's sponsor's, however I do personally own the Ace 250 - it's my first detector, therefore I am unable to compare it with any others. It is a great machine and you definately will find coins and other things with it... Whatever machine you do happen to purchase, please keep us updated with all the great things you will find!!!

Thanks for the reply.....Its the difference in the exchange rate US to CDN.....presently at 17% plus any shipping charges ( plus insurance )...probably comes out almost the same $ value...

Welcome To TQ. I have the Ace 250 and really enjoy it, I have found some nice old coins and some relics. I can't compare with any other detectors, because this is my first one.

i can take a bounty hunter 200 bucks to a good spot and clean up. then hit a patch of wood with a 1000 doller minelab and nothing 0. research pays off. now when you have hit your hot spot time and time again. gridded it ect. and the finds are few. thats when a minelab or nautilus comes in play.
miss john started with a r.s.3300 got some hot spots an paid for it. then she got the fisher cz-cd from chuck@treasurehut.(a hot machine) and guess what? its allready paid for itself. she learned it like the back of her hand and wont part with it for nothing. it takes time but learn whatever machine you use. good luck.

Firstly I must thank all the users for their very valuable input..I really appreciate it. Its so nice to know that there are people out there that are caring and so passionate about their chosen hobby.

Well I took the plunge and purchased the Garrett Ace 250, from a close by dealer ( Brantford ). I am looking forward to getting into the field and trying it out.

Thanks again for all your input.
Respectlfully.
Bill
