Default Hello, I'm new to this hobby.....Help

Hi,

I have been interested in this hobby for many years but just never knew were to start. I came across this site and there seems to be a wealth of information here! I guess my first logical question would be: what equipment would you recommend for a beginner? I am sure this question has been asked many times in the past. I have been reading some posts here in the past few days that some recommend a Garrett Ace 250. Is this a good piece of equipment, or are there others (within the same price range) that I should also be looking at?

Thanks,

Tom

The ACE250 is a VERY GOOD INSTRUMENT ! I own one and it has been very good to me. I have owned a LOT of detectors in the past and I find the ACE250 to be priced right, light weight, easy controls and very effective. There are others in it's price range but the ACE250 is good for the Beginner and the Pro...PAPPY

What Pappy said. The Ace 250 is an excellent detector. You will not be sorry.

Hi Tom and welcome, I hope you will join in on this great hobby with us. The Ace 250 is an unbeatable deal Tom. Of course it utilizes surface mount technology like most other detectors now which makes for a very stable platform. The amount of features is amazing for this price class. It even has a nickname called the yeller fellar. Garrett just came out with a really cool weather cover for it too! I will be happy to assist you Tom when ever you are ready. God Bless and Merry Christmas Tom.
