Been thinking about getting into metal detecting for some time, but have been apprehensive, no, overwhelmed. This year Santa (Penny) gave me an X-Terra 30, so I've taken the first step. I ventured out to a local park for my "first time", and after 1 1/2 hrs, I found a dime and 3 pennies (all newer), plus some pull tabs, pop tops, and bottle caps. After an hour the 2nd day, I had 2 more pennies ( 1 a wheatie), and more pull tabs, pop tops, and bottle caps and some wire. This was just around the edge of the parking lots, and under the swings. I'm eagerly awaiting the first trip to the beach. I'll welcome any advice offered. Thanks

Glad to have you on-board the forum Lucky Penny.

The best advice I can give you is listen to everybody then combine all that info into what ever will work the best for you.

Then you will be sure to unearth many more great finds.

Thanks for the warm welcome! It looks like there is a "surge" in the number of new members, both to the hobby and the forum. I've been reading here everyday, just trying to pick up some pointers. Went to a local beach and county park with another guy who's been at this for a couple of years; he has a BH Tracker. He was covering a lot of area fast; actually, I was kind of surprised as to how fast he was really moving. But at the end of the day, he outdid me by about 5 to 1 in coins. Counting all the pop tops and other trash, we were about equal. I guess I need alot more time with mine to be able to determine what not to dig. The instructional DVD that was supposed to be included with mine is backordered. Hopefully that will provide some insight on how to use my new toy.
